Slipstream Windows 7 SP1 into a Installation DVD or ISO File

Glad to see such a detailed tutorial out for everyone, great job! I have been using RT Se7en lite for a while, and really pleased with it - I heard a 3.0 version was also on the horizon...but not sure.

Anyway - I have a hangup on one particular feature, and never can get it to work out correctly - and that is when I try to apply changes to ALL versions on disk, and have the option to choose the version of Win7 on the install menu. I always get the menu on boot cd, but stays locked to Ultimate version only.

Is this something wrong with the app itself? or am I still looking over something besides the simple choice selection to apply to "all images"? I wasn't sure if any additional editing may be needed to correct it, such as the ei.cfg, etc. Or if it matters as to which Windows 7 disk file version is used, OEM vs retail.

Any pointers on this issue would be greatly appreciated though....Thanks for your time!

Hello Wyatt, and welcome to Seven Forums.

I'm not sure why, but it may be the copy of Windows 7 or SP1 that you are using. It does need to be a retail copy of Windows 7 though.

I have to agree that a retail, possibly OEM for system builders disk, but not any branded OEM disk would need to be used. An unbranded OEM recovery disk you would order through a vendor like newegg would likely see results while any HP, Dell, Toshiba, ...... etc. branded would be proprietary and tend to be locked solid.

The retail disk however will always be the best choice to begin with being a complete version whether upgrade or full install media. I'll be looking to test that even more if a newer version is seen available.

I will definitely check out the oem vs retail then, and see if a difference. beats me tho...some people have trouble removing the option...darned if I can't seem to get it to work...lol. thanks again.

Hey all, i'm new here, could somebody please help me with this problem that I have? Using the guide on this page i'm trying to slipstream SP1 into my Win7 .iso, am using RT Seven Lite 2.6.0 beta as instructed, but when I get to step 4:G, which is copying the contents of my Win7 disc to a new folder, it gets to 100% copied then comes up with an error "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." What the? Any ideas?

Hello Rivfader, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Are you using a unmodified Windows 7 for the ISO file? You will not be able to use a custom Windows 7 copy if this is the case.

I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium x64 OEM. What i'm actually trying to do is a clean OS install, except the installer won't let me, it keeps asking for a CD/DVD driver following clicking 'Install now' at the very start, just after boot.. it's some sort of strange error and nobody around seems to know how to solve the problem. It will not accept any driver that I have tried and i've tried dozens.

Many suggestions i've had involve disabling AHCI in Bios, but my Bios (Insyde H20 F.07) has the option to do so locked out and further research has proven my Bios to be completely unhackable. One guy I talked to, however, suggested slipstreaming SP1 into my .iso then trying the install may prove to be a solution. So that's how I ended up here; i'm just not quite sure on how to work around this RT Seven Lite issue that i'm experiencing?

I'm open to any suggestions as I must have tried hundreds of different ideas/methods by now. It's proven to be incredibly frustrating as I only purchased this notebook five days ago.

Actually there has been one tiny modification that I have made, I downloaded a small utility eicfg removal utility. The purpose of this utility is to delete the ei.cfg file from the Windows 7. iso, allowing you to install any version (Ultimate, Home Premium.. etc..) providing you have the correct key. Perhaps you are familiar with it? I was reccommended to use this. In doing so, would I have caused the .iso to be incompatible with RT Seven Lite? Should I download another legal copy of my OS and leave it untouched before loading into RT Seven Lite?

That would be why then. It's a modified Windows 7 and will not work to slipstream with.

You will need a unmodified retail copy of Windows 7 instead.
