Slipstream Windows 7 SP1 into a Installation DVD or ISO File

All I want to do is to to get the Windows 7 boot disc onto a USB drive instead. I have also tried the Windows 7 USB/DVD download tool but that doesn't work either. I get the error message that files have copied sucessfully however there was a problem in making it bootable.

Unfortunately I can't install off the DVD because my Asrock Extreme 4 Gen 3 doesn't recognise my DVD-RW as it is old style ATA connector having to be connected via Belkin PCI ATA133 card as the Asrock boad has no ata connectors but does have the older floppy connector that nobody uses anymore go figure!

No option in the Bios to boot from pci ata! No option I can see to select to boot from USB but was gonna try make a bootable USB flash drive with Windows 7 slipstreamed or copied onto it and see if it works or detects it.

Any other ideas or advice greatly appreciated on how I can just get this Windows 7 installed to my new system build. Do you know if there is any other way to do this besides the RT Seven Lite and the Windows USB/DVD utility that actually works?

If you were going to be installing 7 on the same machine I would tend to a fast temp install of 7 long enough to the RT 7 Lite in preparing the new slipstreamed media. You would certainly need installed and activated in order to download the Windows updates for the new version if you were planning to add those in as well.

All the steps going good but when I want to save an image file it doesn't working.
the progress bar show me 100% and write " image file successfully created" but nothing. I can't find the IMG file anywhere.

At step 15B in the tutorial, where did you select to save the ISO file to?

If on your desktop as in the step, then refresh (F5) the desktop to see if it may appear afterwards.

Well, you are kinda limited by the hardware that you currently have though.

Are you noticing your HDD free space being reduced by the amount of the ISO file afterwards to indicate that it was actually created or not?

If you are, then you might search your HDD using this: *.ISO to see if it may be able to find it.

Hmm, that's got me stumped as well. You might restart the computer and try again to see if that may help. If you have another partition or drive, see if you can set it to save the ISO there to see if you might see the ISO afterwards.

Will it create a DVD or USB for you?

If ISO, you should be able to use a free program like ImgBurn to extract/burn the ISO to a DVD that your drive supports.

As explained I can not use my DVD drive as it is not a SATA connector it uses the old style ATA133 ribbon connection and Asrock Extreme 4 Gen 3 does not have this connection on the main board even though it has much old floppy connector. It does not recognise Belkin PCI ATA133 Card with DVD-RW optical drive connected to that. So I have no way to instal Windows 7 from the DVD it came on.

The Microsoft USB/DVD tool also does not work as it will not make my USB flash drive bootable. It looks like I am completely out of luck and will have to spend more money just to get a new SATA DVD-RW drive so I can install Windows 7. It's ridiculous.

The substitute program for the MS USB tool would be downloading the shareware version of a program like UltraISO or another that will write directly to flash drives and contains a make bootable option like that one does. If you lack an optical drive opening up the 7 dvd will certainly be awkward as well as going to install 7 except for creation of a USB Install Key. USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create

Once you have the slipstreamed iso ready to go and saved you would use the alternate program on a 4gb flash for 32bit 8gb for the 64bit when using the RT 7 Lite write to flash drive option(was able to fit 64bit iso with SP1 and two small updates on 4gb using other program).

The method for install as well as any repair then comes by way of a bootable usb install key. It even worked for servicing a few older laptop where Vista had come with those and the optical drives were history.
