Hm, this didn't work for me. I installed RT Seven lite, realized that I had chosen the wrong version by mistake and went to remove it. First problem was that it did not register as being installed and I could not install over the top of it with SP1 version. I ended up restoring a system image to get rid of the program.

Once everything was rebooted, I installed the SP1 version of Rt Seven Lite. It got to the SP1 addition stage. The thing took TWO hours to complete 32% of 'preparing'. Needles to say I gave up and hard rebooted, and re re instated the latest system image to get rid of the program and traces of the procedure.

I am not best pleased by this program and will most likely now just burn the SP1 ISO to a DVD. But for this install, I'll just install it via Window's Update.
Correct, the RC 1.7.0 build does not include the SP1 Slipstream option. Only the Beta 2.6.0 build does.
    Ooops.

You should have had a RT 7 Lite (64-bit) uninstall entry in Programs and Features to uninstall the program with. Is this what you say was not there?

Did you change the Set priority setting to High first in step 4B to help speed the slipstreaming process up some. The slipstreaming process will take a while to complete, and could take longer on systems that are not real fast or if you had the priority level set to the default Normal.

    I chose the x64 version.

Yes I followed all of the steps up to the SP1 patch, I chose the extracted X64 version from the ISO. Then it just stuck at 'preparing'.
Did you have anything else running that may have interfered with this?

You might start from scratch and start over with nothing else running using the High priority to see if that may help.

    Hope this helps for now,
    Shawn
OK, I think I'll start from the beginning here. I downloaded the full DVD ISO from here: Download details: Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (KB976932)

Then I used WINRAR to extract the X64 version of the SP from the ISO.

    1. Yup, I installed the non beta (SP) version by mistake. Problem was it did list not anywhere as being installed, yet it quite clearly was! I tried the option over writing it with the newest beta version (SP) but the program would not allow an over write. So I had to re-image the entire computer just to lose it! Yes I used X64 versions each time.

    2. I disabled Window's Firewall and MSE prior to starting this up. And made sure that no other programs were running. This computer is only a year and a half old (dual core Intel, 4Gb RAM, 1TB- free drive space) and runs most things very fast.

Yes I had it set to high priority. Extracting the X64 version from the ISO took less than a minute. So why should the "preparing" phase take two hours to only achieve 33%?

I ended up burning the DVD ISO to a empty DVD and installing SP1 that way. I did notice something weird though. Instead of just starting installing immediately, it proceeded to download a file called: WINDOWS6.1-KB976932-X64.CAB. Since I downloaded the full 1.9GB ISO I shouldn't have to download anymore, right? So why the extra download?! I don' know.

When I Google7D this CAB file this morning, I saw a TON of threads about this .CAB file causing major slip streaming failure. Perhaps the RT seven lite I had installed was having a fit too because of this file that wanted to download itself idk why, la?

    Lost Colonist,

Try downloaded the SP1 x64 EXE file directly from that link instead of the ISO and extracting the EXE from the ISO. Maybe something went wrong in extracting it from the ISO.

What did you use for Windows 7, a ISO or installation DVD in step 4 or 5?

Last year I created an install DVD that would allow me to choose which edition of 7, and x32 or x64, to install. After reading the instructions, it appears the utility only updates one edition of 7 (the one ticked) and either the x32 or the x64.

So for example the tutorial used the Ultimate Edition of 7 x64. Is it possible then to installed the Pro
Edition of 7 off of the DVD or ISO with the SP1 updates?
    Hello Robert,

I was able to select a different Windows 7 edition at step 6 than what the Windows 7 ISO was for to create a slipstream of the selected Windows 7 edition instead.
So if I want to re-create a multi-edition DVD with SP1, I would need to repeat the process for each edition?

That might be worth a shot, it is a smaller download too. I used the ISO that I got with my student purchase of Window's 7 Pro. Thanks for helping with the trouble shooting :).

    Hello Robert,

You could create a separate Windows 7 SP1 installation DVD/ISO by repeating the process for each edition, but it wouldn't be a all in one multiple edition installation DVD/ISO though.

    You're welcome mate.

Runkle confirmed below that a student copy worked for him, so it should for you as well. I only tested with a retail copy though.
