    Personal - Macrium Software

It is on my "list" to get the Macrioum 4 license PRO pack along with a few SSD's a 60" TV (I don't see as well as I used to but my Sony 57" PTV is 10 years old and still has a fantastic picture, I do know how good it is, repairing them was what I did) 3 of the same 16:10 monitors to replace the 3 on my desk that have nothing wrong with them.....and so on. I am sure all us Geeks have the same kind of list.
LOL! That's like saying you are sure the Pope is Catholic. The funds for those lists is a whole 'nuther story.

Does the paid Macrium version have a WinPE with all the extra bells and whistles? I assume it can be used to restore or image any PC.

Scott that is a lofty list!

Yes. It's called "Restore to dissimilar hardware". See here for a list of features in all four versions.

i've read half of the tutorial already...

i'm looking to buy a new laptop and most i5-i7 laptops are bundled with windows 8... (a couple years back they sell i3-i5 with DOS). i have an intel SSD from my previous dead laptop.

i've never done disk clone/mirror imaging before... i'd like to ask.. is this tutorial can be used to move bundled windows 8 from the HDD to my SSD?

also, after succesfully moving it, is it possible to format the hdd so i can use it as secondary storage? (whether thru external enclosure or put hdd caddy on said laptop)

If you want to make your life easy, use the Paragon Migration Tool for the cloning job - only 3 clicks (link in tutorial) . But you can also use the manual way described in the tutorial.

And by all means you can reformat/reuse your HDD and attach it with a USB caddy - preferably USB3 or eSata if available.

sweet. yes 20 bucks easier life for tech-illiterate like me is better. i just hold off on starbucks for a week or two

how are you whs? life's good in germany?

btw, before reformatting the HDD, how can i backup the bundled hdd original content for later use? hypothetically say, i have to do a warranty claim, im going to take out the ssd and put the hdd back in and put the win8 + bloatware back in place to reduce hassle. being in south east asia and such.

i know i hv to use some kind of mirrorring software for it. but ive never done that. which tutorial should i follow? / what keyword should i type on sevenforums custom google search to do it?

    cheersss!!

If you want to preserve the disk for warrenty purposes, I would leave everything on it and shrink the C partition to get freespace (there is probably a lot of freespace). Then I would make an extra partition on the HDD and use that.

Best is you make a snip of your Disk Management and post it here. Then we can discuss the details - tomorrow since it is after midnight here in Florida.

actually... im thinking of going to put SSD to hdd bay and... taking out the ODD and replace it with HDD caddy so i'll get the best of both worlds. since the sudden death of my old laptop... to make sure how difficult it is to DIY replacing the hdd with SSD and putting the hdd to where the odd is on the new notebook.
that's the reason i asked about formatting the HDD but wanting to keep a backup that i could restore anytime.

Can macrium do that? i saw your macrium tutorial a long time ago... if i backup the original HDD to another external disk, will it backup the whole disk (incl. the manufacturer hidden partition as well?)

if my shrink the HDD C drive and partition it, then putting the HDD to the ODD bay... idk.. i guess practically it's okay but it doesn't look neat. hehe

Apologies for going off on a tangent... regarding your help... i hvnt bought the laptop yet. there's 2 pricing for it, the DOS one and the bundled with windows one.

it's $80 difference price between both. i'd rather get the windows bundled one because i dont have win8 software yet, buying a retail win8 cost $150, and i'd rather keep my win7 FPP and not upgrade that with the $90 "anytime upgrade" they offer here.

so... here i am researching and ask beforehand... it's going to be around a week before i get around and buy the laptop. the bundled windows one could save me a couple bucks... but if i couldn't understand backup-restore-mirror the original HDD, id probably just bite the DOS and buy win8 retail ^_^

    cheeersss...

I migrated from HDD to SDD with the Paragon OS to SSD and it went flawless. I tried the Samsung free tool that came with my SSD and it didn't work. Go figure. But the Paragon went easy.

I used my old HDD for storage of images made by Macrium Reflect. I liked the free version so well I bought the paid version to thank them. :) Also I had paid Paragon Home 2012 and found it harder to use so I dropped it and use Macrium Reflect.
