Also, I bought the product key from a legitimate source. Additionally, calling Microsoft would provide what help? I doubt telling them I want to clean install Windows 7 Upgrade on a brand new PC without any previous Windows OS would get me anywhere. Correct me if I'm wrong!

You know what, I am afraid I cannot help you in good conscience. While it is fully possible to break the law, no member of this site, including myself, can endorse that.

If you have a qualifying OS, install it, and then post back if you still need help.

If you are installing Windows on a PC without a previous OS, legally, you should buy a Full version.

My apologies, thank you for the help.

Try looking on Amazon.com for XP. Perhaps you can find a copy for cheap. That will qualify you for the upgrade.

64bit vs 32bit step

where in the setup process does the 64/32 bit option present itself?

I have Windows 7 64-bit.. or so I think The outer box says 32bit and 64bit but the dvd itself says 32bit

and when I did a clean install I never saw an option for 64bit or 32bit

Hello BJG, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You should have two DVDs in a retail Windows 7 package. One DVD for 32-bit, and one for 64-bit.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I bought the professional version and it has both but I also got the Ultimate version (not for resale) for free and it only has the 32bit disc. I thought maybe both 64 and 32 were on the same disc, even though its labeled 32bit.

I'm betting a lot of developers are pissed that they went to a Windows 7 conference and only got the 32bit version for free.

Yeah, it would only be the 32-bit version then.

I would think that they would want developers to have both.

I wonder if theres a chance to download the 64bit version and use the 32bit key

The key will work on the 32-bit or 64-bit version of that edition of Windows 7. If you have a friend with the same edition, you can use their 64-bit DVD to install it with your key instead.
