Hello AFX,

While no one knows for sure yet until we can get our hands on a upgrade version of Windows 7, it will either be the same method used to do it in Vista, or ask you to insert the Vista installation DVD during the installation of the upgrade Windows 7.

Hope this helps some,
Shawn

Hello Deadman, and welcome to Seven Forum.

Yes, this will be the process you would use to format the hard drive XP is on to wipe it clean to then install Windows 7. If you are downloading a ISO file of Windows 7, you will need to burn (extract) it to a DVD using a program like the free ImgBurn.

You could also use the ISO to create a USB Windows 7 installation key drive to use to install Windows 7 faster than from a DVD.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi all
I dont think that this process is formatting my hdd. unless it can do it in 3 or 4 seconds. Either way i followed all steps and the process of installation begins. It has one reboot and then restarts of its own accourd before bringing me back to the classic box

The computer restated unexpectedly or encounter an unexpected error windows installation can on proceed to install windows click "ok" to restart the computer and then restart the installation."

Please help a long suffering mac user (sorry for swearing)

Regards
Jez

Hello Jez, and welcome to Seven Forums.

What kind of setup do you have? Are you trying to dual boot, or is Windows 7 the only OS you are trying to install?

Where did you get your copy of Windows 7? It may be a bad copy.

Hey Brink
The copy is the MS iso. A freind downloaded it and had a spare serial. Its the one that runs out. My Problem is identical to the one in my edit. On the post. As i mentioned I dont have a vga on my machine so im looking at ways to change this.

I have a copy of XP but if im correct i cant upgrade i have to clean install. I cant remember where i put my copy of vista as I dont like it as an OS.

My options are to use my mums computer but she has a very low spec so dont know if will let me. Or see if i can scrounge an old vga graphics card.

Its gonna be a long night.

Hello Brink,
I was reading the tutorial on Clean Install Windows 7, and it wasn't clear to me if you could do a clean installation of Win 7 from the upgrade version.

I was wondering if this got clarified. I am intending to use an upgrade version of Win 7 Professional over the top of Vista Ultimate.

Any thoughts if I can still execute the clean install?

Thanks,
Greg
