Unfortunately that option didn't work. The driver is the latest, according to realtek web site (maybe I should try the one for Vista), and it's restored automatically when I restart. Doing some tests, my connection seems ok if a configure my modem as a router, but I don't like the idea of having my connection always on. I just want to disconnect and connect when I decide to. And that means a normal pppoe ethernet connection.

If anywone has the same problem, this is what I'm talking about (see the pictures). Going to my Local Network properties, the IPv4 and IPv6 connectivities are down. But, with all of this, Internet works OK, browsers, p2p, etc. It's connected.

The following DID NOT WORK:

1-Power off and back on my modem
2-Restart, reinstall my network drivers
3-Checking hardware problem, like cable and phone line
4-Set up a new internet connection, with default options

Same Issue

I have the same problem

I'm buying a cheap network card and will try that rather than a fresh install.
Thanks for the help

Yes, it looks like I'm gonna have to reinstall Windows 7. Bad luck... This isn't really a problem, because I can use Internet but it's really annoying!! I just hope anyone fixes this with windows update...

Probably I'll just hide the notification icon now..

Hi everyone,
after reinstalling Windows 7, a clean install by the way, the internet problem is solved, the connection now occurs normally, without any issues. I just hope this doesn't happen again.
Merry Christmas to you all!!

Windows 7 Dial up

Hi all,
I've just installed Windows 7 (old system was XP) and am now having trouble with my dial up internet connection. Whenever i try to connect it dials and attempts to communicate with the remote server then the connection is closed due to error 628 or 629 and occassionally 619. I have an Agere Win Modem which i believe is the source of the problem as i am able to use the dial up connection through other computers. I've tried some new drivers but am stuggling to find Agere one's and have had no luck so far.
Does anyone have any ideas?

Hello ironmannick, and welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

Yes, your phone modem is very old and is not well supported. I would suggest you look here at the Windows 7 Compatibility Center hardware browse results - Networking - Modems for a Windows 7 compatible phone modem.

Cheers!

thanks for your speedy reply iseeuu,
I thought it might be the modem, i've been trying to find up to date drivers for over week but none of them will install on my system. So you recommend buying a new modem altogether?

cheers,
Nick

Hi Nick!

The Lucient modem you are using has changed hands/names/brands a few times. Companies lose interest in keeping old inherited hardware up to date when they are trying to sell new hardware. A newer, 7 compatible, modem should be an easy, not very expensive fix. When I reviewed (briefly) the modem compatibility page, I saw some 30 internal and external modems to choose from.

Happy surfing!
