Hello Teacat, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Are you able to boot into Safe Mode?

Afterwards, hopefully be able to do the steps in the tutorial. :)

    Hmm, ok.

Let's see if you may be able to do a system restore at boot using a restore point (if available) dated before you had this issue.

You'll need to boot from a 32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium installation DVD/USB or System Repair disc to do this. If you do not have one since you have a Toshiba laptop with Windows most likely preinstalled, then you could download the latest official Windows 7 with SP1 ISO file at the link below while on another computer.

Microsoft: Windows 7 Direct Download Links

...and create a USB or DVD from the ISO using the tutorial below.

    User account error

I have a Win7 System Image backup on a remote backup hard drive. Can I do that instead of this procedure? How do I initiate the backup restore from a USB connection? In safe mode?

    Thanks,

    Hello Paul,

You could do a System Image Recovery to restore the image if Windows is able to find/see it.
If not, then you should still be able to do the steps in the tutorial here to fix this user profile error, or do a system restore with a restore point dated before this happened.

    Hope this helps. :)

    HI Brink,
Can't get to safe mode. F8 does nothing, so can't find restore point or do anything else

Are you able to boot into Safe mode using any of the other methods?

If not, then you could also boot from a retail installation DVD/USB to do a system restore or system image recovery from.
