I'm sorry, but .srt file types do not have default associations in Windows.
If you wanted to unassociate .srt files from a program, then you could use the tutorial below to do so.
If you wanted to set a program to be the default program to open .srt files, then either tutorial below can help show you how to.

@Brink, I did not scan the files, I just merged all the extensions files blindly out of my frustration with my computer, yes correct, I should have been scanning the files before I install those files in my computer, I understand now, I installed the files and I hope I don't find secure issues. Can you recommend a good scanner to be safe side, currently I am using free AVAST anti versus software. Recommend good software to be safe side. Thank you Brink, your responses are very helpful.

You have nothing to worry about the files in the tutorials on this site though. They are all 100% safe if used as per the tutorial they are in.

None of the fixes posted are working for the problem I have with this laptop. I've compared the registry settings with other systems here manually in both HKCU and HKLM, but they appear to all be the same. HKCR is set correctly as well. But clicking on desktop or downloads isn't working.

oh, I was referring to the fix of the .lnk file association. I ran the fix, but it didn't fix the problem. On windows 7 I click on "my computer", I see the standard links to desktop and download etc. none of those work they just give an error that .lnk is not associated.
Again, I've run the reg fix, and compared the registry entries manually, they all appear to be correct.

If these are the ones under "Favorites" in the navigation pane, then you might see if deleting them and restoring them using the tutorial below may be able to help.
