How to Disable the Sleep Option in the Windows Shut Down Menu

       Information
Here is a fairly simple method to disable the sleep option in the Windows shut down menu; it's very easy to re-enable the option in future if the need ever arises.

    EXAMPLE: "Sleep" Disabled
NOTE: Notice that Sleep is grayed out.

    A) Click on the Download button below to download the file below.
    Disable_Sleep.reg
    B) Go to step 3 below.
    2. To Enable "Sleep"
NOTE: This is the default setting.
    A) Click on the Download button below to download the file below.
    Enable_Sleep.reg
    B) Go to step 3 below.
    3. Save the .reg file to the desktop.

    4. Right click on the downloaded .reg file and click on Merge.

    5. When prompted, click on Run, Yes (UAC), Yes, and OK to approve merging the .reg file.

    6. Restart the computer to apply.

    7. You can now delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.
    Enjoy :)

Hello Bianca, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It would be best to create a new thread in the forum area about your sleep issue since it's not related to this tutorial. This tutorial only disables the sleep option in the Start Menu and not sleep itself.

Well, at least this thread got bumped to my attention and it's something I've needed! I have a PC that doesn't Sleep properly, only Hibernates! So after implementing this tweak I no longer have to worry about accidentally clicking the Sleep selection....thanks BFK!

    Hi

I've tried the tweak with Local and Current keys, and did successfully see that sleep had been greyed out. As it is after an hour or so with the PC still on it had un-grayed itself, and now refuses to go back to being greyed out.

I've checked and double checked that the keys are correctly named etc and have deleted them, and re-created them but no luck. I even tried creating the Qword 64 bit ACSettingIndex but this didn't work.

The laptop is a month old and it's Windows 7 Home Edition.

Any idea why this won't work for me?

    Thanks in advance.
