How to Change the Default Windows 7 Media Center Media Browser Icon

information   Information
This is a quick one for those of you who hate Media Browsers Icon in the main menu.

Windows Media Center is not available in the Windows 7 Starter and Windows 7 Home Basic editions.
Note   Note
Please make sure to create a backup copy of ehres.dll

This is if you'd like the default movie icon back to tie in with your pictures and music etc.

1.By now you should have a copy of restorator 2007, if not, download and install the free trial.

2.Next up is to find ehres.dll located at A:\Windows\ehome, when you have found it take ownership of it, make a copy of it on the desktop and rename it ehres BACKUP.dll (if you've previously made a backup of ehres.dll don't bother!)

3.Next is to open ehres.dll with restorator, in the left hand pane navigate to RCData\STARTMENU.QUICKLINK.MOVIES.FOCUS.PNG, you should have the same icon as below.

4.Next, is to right click on STARTMENU.QUICKLINK.MOVIES.FOCUS.PNG, go to Extract... > Extract as "STARTMENU.QUICKLINK.MOVIES.FOCUS.PNG" and save the image to desktop.

5.Now we have our default movie image extracted and saved to desktop, navigate to A:\Program Files\MediaBrowser\MediaBrowser
Locate the PNG image called Application and rename it Application BACKUP. Drag the extracted default WMC movie icon from the desktop and into A:\Program Files\MediaBrowser\MediaBrowser and rename it Application.

6.If you want to remove the default movie strip from WMC and replace it with the Media Browser strip download this zip file and merge the relevant registry entries.

7.Open up WMC go to Media Browser and behold, a good looking icon!

8.If you made a copy of ehres.dll, create a new folder, name it WMC backup put the ehres BACKUP.dll into it and store it safely!!

Might be good to stick the PNG here to download?

here they are: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/313626/icons.rar

Apologies if this breaks any rules.

Thanks! though I have a couple tweaks that some may find useful:

1. Use media Centre Studio. Although discontinued, it allows you to configure WMC to you hearts content. Download here: http://www.hack7mc.com/2011/11/media...tallation.html
2. Here are the pre-extracted active/inactive icons for Movies, Recoded TV, and TV setup for use if you have separate icons for Movies and TV Shows (and a decent looking icon for the configurator): 2shared - download Icons.zip
