How to Add "Hide" and "Unhide" to File and Folder Context Menu in Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8

       Information
This will add Hidden File Attributes and Hidden Folder Attributes to the context menu of files and folders for all users to be able to hide or unhide one or more selected file(s), folder(s), and/or folder(s) contents in Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8.

You must be logged in as an administrator to be able to add or remove this from the context menu. All users will be able to use the context menu though.

       Note
This context menu will only set the attribute of only the selected file(s) and/or folder(s) to either be hidden or unhidden, or only the "subfolders and files" of the selected folder(s) to be hidden or unhidden.

It will not change a system attribute of a file or folder that may have it set to them. For example, hidden protected operating system files.

    OPTIONS:
Hide/unhide Only Selected Folder(s) and/or File(s) without including the subfolders and files in any selected folder(s).

    AND

    Hide/unhide Only Subfolder(s) and File(s) in the Selected Folder(s) without hiding/unhiding the selected folder(s).

EXAMPLE: What is Added to Context Menu of Files and Folders
File and Folder - Add "Hide" and "Unhide" to Context Menu-files.jpg File and Folder - Add "Hide" and "Unhide" to Context Menu-folders.jpg

    B) Go to step 3.
    2. To Remove "Hide or Unhide a File or Folder" from Context Menu
NOTE: This is the default setting.
    A) Click on the Download button below to download the file below.
    Remove_Hide-Unhide_File-and-Folder.reg
    3. Click on Save, and save the .reg file to the desktop.

    4. Right click on the downloaded .reg file and click on Merge.

    5. If prompted, click on Run, Yes, Yes, and OK.

    6. When done, you can delete the downloaded .reg file if you like.
    That's it,
    Shawn

Wow, your an extremely clever computer user :)

    Thank you.

It seems a bit confusing, will have to get used to it.

Please can you tell me the difference between:

    Only Select Folder(s) and/or File(s) + Only Subfolder(s) and File(s) in Select Folder(s)

    You're welcome Infinite. :)

Hide/unhide Only Selected Folder(s) and/or File(s) without including the subfolders and files in a folder.

    OR

Hide/unhide Only Subfolder(s) and File(s) in Selected Folder(s) without hiding/unhiding the selected folder.

So if I wanted to Hide or Unhide everything including the file, will I need to do both?

    Yes, for folder. :)

I couldn't get it worked out so far to automatically hide a selected folder and it's contents with one click. Only with using both instead for now.

    Thank you Shawn :)

I have not applied your handy trick ... yet.
BUT if a folder/file is already hidden how can the folder/file be unhidden if it is already hidden ?
I suppose folder-options would have to be set to show-all to use the unhide context-menu item.

Is it possible to only view Hide and Unhide on Shift+RClick context-menu instead of the RClick context menu?
    Shift+RClick lists 23 items
    RClick lists 20 items

Would this tweak be easier/possible through a third party context menu manager ?
I am not adverse to tweaking the registry manually.

    Thank you :)

LOL, yeah you would have to have hidden files showing to be able to unhide it. I like using this to make it easy to toggle hide/show hidden files as needed.
