Wow and here I thought it was my computer. One thing that was different for me was my screen would flicker scrambled colors and then go black. Also when I would come out of sleep mode it would shut down and then start back up right away.

I did change the one setting to never but I need to check my computer tomorrow and maybe change other settlings.

Hey Lordbob,

I can not thank you enough. This sleep problem has put me through hell for over a week. Let me explain “hell”. Every time it would fall asleep I would spend an awful amount of time trying to repair the start-up. My MBR would get destroyed, the start up disks for both Vista and Win 7 would not repair (dual booting), and Acronis and its start-up disk would get me into more trouble. It was hell. When I would finally stumble onto some way to finally start the computer which Oh by the way would not even post at first each time, it would finally start up with a black screen and a message that Windows is not genuine. So I would then have to waste all kinds of time reactivating. When finally running I tried many software programs to try to repair theMBR. Not know what I was doing would often make it unbootable again.

I suspected that my problems were caused by Acronis True Image 2010 so today I finally uninstalled it although I liked the program. I felt that it was deleting my MBR and causing the sleep problem. I don’t know if I should reinstall it now or not.

In any case you have lowered my blood pressure a lot and I can not thank you enough.

Well, that does sound like a nasty problem. Glad you got it working now. There are plenty alternatives to that program, just look around and I am sure you will find one you will like.

I did this and tested it several times and it seems to work though my issue is when its been asleep for a long period. My network icon remains with a red X. I checked the driver for the Marvell Yukon controller and its up to date. I think though you didn't put in your work around to go back and reset system to sleep.

hy, guys,

I had same problem, so I have been looking for solution everywhere. Finally, I have solved this problem simply switching BIOS option ACPI SUSPEND TYPE to S3.
I hope it can help others, too.

I've been having the same problem off an on for the past few months. I'll put my computer to sleep, then everything will power on, except I get a black screen.

This issue will go away for a week or two then come back randomly. I've been trying everything...
