So I don't know what I did wrong, but when I tried to change the start orb, I couldn't do anything with explorer. I figured a restart would fix it, so I did that, bad idea! Now when I logon all I have is a black screen with the mouse pointer! I can open task manager and whatnot, but I don't know how to get explorer working again. Any help is greatly appreciated. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Home Premium |

I had the exact same problem recently, perhaps the fix I found would help for you as well? All depends on whether or not you can still use Ctrl+Alt+Del to log out of your profile when you hit that black screen.. But try it and see.
It's a bit of a two part thing; here is the process I used initially ( link), and I found later I needed to perform one more step to get it working properly ( link). Thanks for the help, I was able to get it working again today just after a restore point. I feel like an idiot for not thinking about that sooner. Panicked too early haha. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Home Premium |

Panicked too early haha. It happens like that sometimes, for some reason I always seem to go for the most complex solutions first, pretty much expecting the worst.. Guess it's my pessimistic side showing through hey. Anyways, glad you got it sorted. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number .oO-My Baby-Oo. Is that possible ? Make it as tiny as you like. I made my start button tutorial because the button stuck out over the top of the task bar and annoyed me when use small icons was turned on. Start Button - Create a Rectangular Start Button you can make your own rectangular (or orb) with freeware easily. Just shrink it below 28 pixels high to keep it inside the task bar. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Acer 5720z laptop OS win7 home premium 64bit |

I tried this trick earlier and now explorer.exe always asks for permission to do stuff. For example, I tried editing the security of a system file, and I got the "exploer.exe wants to modify system settings...etc etc.. Yes or No" - it's the UAC prompt, basically.
How do I set the patched explorer.exe to 'full trust'? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Toshiba Satellite A500-159 OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 CPU Intel Core 2 Duo P8700 (2.53GHz) Motherboard Intel GM45 Memory 4GB DDR2 800MHz Dual-Channel Graphics Card ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650 Sound Card ATI HDMI Audio; Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays 16" Tru-Brite 16:9 format Screen Resolution 1366 x 768 Keyboard One that lights up! :D Mouse Trap is the best board game ever.
