I have just burned a DBAN disk, booted from it, explored the screens and stopped just short from wiping my disks.

1. Once in interactive mode, some of the commands were not working (such as M to change mode), while others were inverted (J and K = up and down, except it worked the other way round). Could this be because of my French AZERTY keyboard ? Is there a workaround ?

2. Once in interactive mode, I did not find any command to interrupt the process so as to not proceed with wiping, so I just took the CD off, pressed the ON/OFF switch until shutdown, switched off the power supply (overkill probably), then booted up again into Windows. Is that correct ? Did I miss something ?

3. Is anyone aware of the time it takes to wipe a disk with the non-default methods, for instance DOD 5220.22-M ?

I have a hard drive that I need to wipe clean. A few years ago, someone gave me a copy of dban (daricks boot and nuke) that worked great, but I've lost it. I can get a copy on cnet.com but cant get it ti work. I download the iso file and burn it to disk, but it wont run. Any suggestions ??
