" You will need to know how to boot the troublesome computer from either a CD/DVD or USB drive. The way you do this depends largely on the make of BIOS of your computer. If you aren't sure, just ask."
Hello, I was inquiring about the above quoted statement. I'm a complete computer novice and I am requiring assistance with my Gateway netbook that is stuck in a start up repair loop. I want to get my files off my netbook before I attept repairs. I was refered to this thread as a way of doing so. Here is a link to the thread I posted: http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-d...ml#post2154967
Besides trying to understand the requirements mentioned in the quoted statement, I want to double-check to make sure that this method will help me remove or copy my files for safe keeping while I repair my netbook.
Thank you. | My System Specs |

If you fill in your System Specs it would be easier for us to help you. Quote: Q: How do I access the Boot menu options on my portable computer?
A: In order to access the boot options on this portable computer, press the ESC or F10 key while the Gateway screen is displayed during the startup process. This opens a Boot menu with the option to start the computer to any of the available drives or to enter the BIOS Setup Utility. Use the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys to select a menu option, and then press the ENTER key to start to the selected device.
To "boot" (start) to a CD, DVD, or a floppy disk, the media must be in the drive when starting the computer. This also includes a USB memory stick. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number 76~2.0 OS Windows 7 Ult x64 - SP1/ Windows 8 Pro x64 CPU Intel Core i5-3570K 4.6GHz Motherboard Gigabyte GA-Z77X UD3H, f18 Memory 8GB (2X4GB) DDR3 1600 Corsair Vengeance CL8 1.5v Graphics Card Sapphire HD 7770 Vapor-X OC 1GB DDR5 Sound Card Onboard VIA VT2021 Monitor(s) Displays 22" LCD Dell Screen Resolution 1680x1050 Keyboard Logitech Wave Mouse CM Sentinel PSU Corsair HX650W Case Cooler Master Storm Scout Cooling Corsair H80 2x12cm Noctua NF P12 , 2x14cm case fans Hard Drives Samsung 840Pro 128GB SSD,

Hey, and yeah i can do everything shown in step C, but none of my files are there, it just says /home/peppermint, and has folders for downloads, music, etc. Unlike yours that said /home/colin with your stuff. | My System Specs | | Peppermint3 - Create Live CD/DVD/USB To Use For Emergency Backup problems?
