Partition or Volume - Create New

Ahh, I see. I didn't read the tutorial close enough. Just skipped to the later parts, of course I shouldn't do that

Now there's another problem. When I try to shrink the partition it says I can only shrink it by 10 gigs and that defrag could get more shrinkable space there. And now comes the problem. When I analyze the disk for defrag it just says 0% fragged and when I try to defrag the disk it does nothing. So is there another defrag program you recommend or what should I do? Also I checked the jumpers but I didn't see any jumpers anywhere and there wasn't even a manual for it. In the manual there was like P-ATA jumper settings and S-ATA just said plug the cables.

Devil,

You might see if using the free program Partition Wizard Home Edition may let you shrink the partition instead. Disk Management is limited to what it can do.

Hi Shawn,
I originally had Windows Vista Home Premium, and I received a free Windows 7 upgrade DVD from Dell. However, I did a CLEAN installation with the DVD and I deleted my C and D partition in order to do so.
I want to create a new backup D drive for Windows 7. What do I do exactly please? What steps do I follow please?

Hello Brink and other Seven forums users,
i sachin nd i m new user of windows7 ,in my system there is only one drive, i m attaching the screen shot of it , plz help me to create new partition(or drive), above information is use fulll , but i do't know in my sytem in which existing drive i should make partition drive containing OS or i have to make space free from c-drive to create new drive and also want to know that for making free space(or creating new drive) i have to format may existing c-drive(containing OS) or there is another way to do it.

You can shrink your C: partition in step 1 of this tutorial on the first page by how much you want the D: partition to be. Afterwards, you can follow the rest of the tutorial to create the D: partition from the unallocated space that your shrunk from the C: partition. :)

Hello Sachin, and welcome to Seven Forums.

There is no need to format any other partition to get a new partition.

Using the tutorial on the first page you would just need to shrink your C: partition in step 1 of this tutorial on the first page by how much you want the D: partition to be. Afterwards, you can follow the rest of the tutorial to create the D: partition from the unallocated space that your shrunk from the C: partition. :)

Sorry, I am confused. I am not a computer expert. What steps would I follow exactly? What do I do?
Also, how much would I want the D partition to be? What do you mean? What is a good amount?

Btw, on my computer management, I dont have an unallocated volume (black). It's all blue.

You can follow the steps step by step, with using the links in them for more information, on the first page of this thread for how.

I would leave at least 40GB for the C: drive, but this depends on how much you want to install on it and on the D: drive for how much space you want to have on each one though.
