With the re-introduction of the Windows Photo Viewer in Windows 7 the default behavior of the slide show still has the same problems that existed in XP, but 7's new Windows Key shortcuts provide a workaround for this.

By default when you start the slide show it will run on your primary display and blackout your secondary display. This tutorial will show you a workaround for running the Windows Photo Viewer slide show on a secondary monitor while using your primary display.

Here's How:
1. In Windows Photo Viewer, start the slide show by pressing the Play button or F11.

2. Press the Windows Key + Shift + Right Arrow (or left arrow if your secondary display is configured to the left) keys to move the slide show to the secondary display.

3. Press the Windows key.
That's It! Your primary display re-appears and you can resume tasks while the slide show continues to play on the secondary display.

Excellent post. I thought there is no such option available to move the slideshow to an external monitor.
Now my kids enjoying cartoon slideshow on the external monitor (SONY-TV 26") while I am typing this on the main monitor .

I have a question

I followed your instructions and it worked. However, the slideshow was not centered on the 2nd monitor. Using full screen will stretch photos and make them useless unless it centers the photo and leaves black spaces on the sides of the television screen, correct? When it is not centered the photo is all the way to the left and a huge black area is on the right end of the television.

Any ideas on how to center the photos when they display in Slideshow mode on the second display?

Thanks!

Simplest thing,

Open Windows Media Player
Drag it to your secondary display
Drag the folder containing the images on to the media player window
{now the slideshow starts to play!}
Double click Media player to view in full screen..
