Windows 7: MKLINK – Create and Use Links in Windows

I'd like to go 1 step further :-) :

I try to get the following to work on Windows 7 and Windows Server 2012R2:
I have an old Server with a share: \\oldserver\oldshare

Now I have created a junction on a new server to that share with:
mklink /D c:\test\newjunction \\oldserver\oldshare
It works perfect - I can access this share over the junction.

Now I shared this junction: \\newserver\newshare
On my new Server I can now map a drive letter (to itself) y: to \\newserver\newshare and I can access this drive letter and get my old servers share in explorer - perfect! This is what I want.
When I now try to map a drive letter on my Windows 7 client x: to \\newserver\newshare I get an "Access denied".

The share rights are set to "everyone" and "full".
On my new server AND on Wwindows 7 client I have activate SymLinkEvuation für "local->local", "local->remote", "remote->local" and "remote->remote", so all 4 ones are activ.

Any idea how to get this to work?

Thanks for the turotial, almost forgot about Mklink and Junctions cause i always use Archlinux.

Also very nice to use is 'Link Shell Extension', which will make a right-click menu entry:
schinagl.priv.at/nt/hardlinkshellext/linkshellextension.html

Have a good day ^^.

Duplication of Data

So, I created the link for my iTunes MobileSync backup and it worked like a charm. I then proceeded to take a backup of my mobile device and noticed that the backup data is now stored in the shortcut folder on "C" drive as well as the target folder on "F" drive. How do I get ride of this stuff from my "C" drive completely? Please help!! "C" drive is almost full

If I want to make a symbolic link of a file using mklink I use the command;

mklink <path of source location> <path of target location>

I get an error the syntax is incorrect, if I use /D I'm creating a directory symbolic link, which I don't want to do.

Hi Jerome,

Would you be able to post here the exact line you are typing? Or better a screenshot of the problem.

Use "path" if there are spaces in the path.
