Hello Nasxsx, and welcome to Seven Forums.
I have not tried it myself, but I see no reason why you could not do so with Vista. I'm not sure about XP though.

currently, there seems no way to boot xp as it needs vhd drivers at boot, which it does not yet.
you will have problems with missing ntldr.
i'm trying to see if there's any other way.
Shawn, now that I have my new VHD, all is installed and working great.
One question though, Id like to format my primary hd and back up my new vhd to my NAS drive, then put it back when im all done.
I know I can copy it back, but how to I attach it to the boot menu? so it can be booted after I reformat my primary drive or if I were to upgrade to a new larger drive.
Thanks

Ed,
You can use this tutorial below to boot with an existing VHD file. :)
Boot from a VHD using Windows 7
Hi All,
Is it possible to for example, store a VHD file on a Windows Home Server and have a different PC (an HTPC, in this case) boot into Win7 over the network?
I'd love to make my HTPC into a 'diskless' system to eliminate noise and this would seem to make such a thing possible.
Is my thinking correct? or should I stop dreaming?

Hello PGPfan, and welcome to Seven Forums.
I have not tried it, but you may have an issue with it connecting like that. You can give it a try and see what happens though. That would be interesting to see if it would work though.
Can VHD file be placed on partition different from c:\ at the beginning of installation?
the vhd can be placed anywhere
Hello Pitajax, and welcome to Seven Forums.
As Spacesurfer posted, you can place the VHD at any location. You will just need to modify the commands in the steps for that location instead. :)
