Dear Kari, i'm trying to follow your tutorial, but i get stuck at "Part 10. Creating Windows PE boot disk" because i can't get the current version of Siw's WinPE. Can you please post a link to this or is there a workaround?

Thank you for the great tutorial and for your time!

Hi Christian, welcome to the Seven Forums.

The easiest way is to download and install Macrium Reflect Free. When you launch it first time you will be asked if you want to create a WinPE (rescue) disk. Just follow the instructions to create it.

Every third party imaging software has the same feature, possibility to create a boot PE disk.

See fellow geek Wolfgang's excellent Macrium tutorial: Imaging with free Macrium

Windows 7 Ultimate 32 Bit

Wonderful Tutorial Kari. Nicely explained.

I have seen in some other sites that they mention - 'Windows 7 Ultimate with all updates and installed applications in AUDIT Mode'. I tried to give it a shot and did the following...

1. Installed Virtual PC
2. Installed Windows 7 from ISO
3. Logged in to Audit mode by pressing CTRL + SHIFT + F3 (when it asks for username during install)
4. Installed all the Apps and updates onto that
5. Then Shutdown.

On my Main PC, Mounted the VHD File from Disk Management and used Imagex to repack the mounted partition to INSTALL.WIM file.
Then, I tried to replace the SOURCES/INSTALL.WIM with my WIM File. Then tried to install Windows 7 but it does not work.

I know there are ways to repack WIM files with all the customizations and updates.
I want to keep the same structure as Windows DVD has with all my customization/Preinstalled Freewares and then want to burn them to a DVD. This DVD should be Hardware Independent as I have 3 PCs.

Would anyone help me with this please...

Do I need any Answer file ? I do not want unattended setup.

What am I doing wrong ?

What you are doing wrong is to take a method from a tutorial written for normal private users, then proceed using some professional image capturing and deployment methods without actually knowing how to do it.

As all content on Seven Forums and on our sister sites, this tutorial is made for private users. It's purpose is to show how to apply a professional method from corporate environment to home computers and users, how to benefit from it.

What you are trying to do, to capture the modified install.wim and deploy it is not covered in this tutorial. For that, consult this Microsoft TechNet support article: https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/.../hh825236.aspx

Hi
Please help me for download link because i can't download video files
When i open link for view links that you put on this site

i receive with this message
"This link doesn't work anymore"

For better quality viewing you can download both original videos to your computer from SkyDrive. Please notice that when watched on SkyDrive the video quality is not very good. Downloaded to your own computer the quality is OK:

I followed Building a Standard Image of Windows 7: Step-by-Step Guide to create an updated image, but thanks for this ambitious and comprehensive guide. It's nice to know that others are doing this kind of thing... I was beginning to wonder.

I have one quibble though. In Part 7 you say

The Windows AIK comes as an ISO file. You need to burn it to a DVD or mount as a virtual DVD if you are working on a physical computer, or attach it as a virtual DVD on a virtual machine.
IMO a simpler solution is to extract the iso to disk with 7zip and run the installer via 'StartCD.exe'.
