Windows 7 - Drive Letters - Show Before or After Name in Computer

This will show you how to have the drive letters in the Computer window show before or after the drive name in Windows 7. By default, the drive letters are shown after the drive name in Windows 7.

1. To Show the Driver Letters After the Drive Name

A) Click on the Download button below to download the
Show_Drive_Letters_After.zip file below.

B) Go to step 3.

2. To Show the Driver Letters Before the Drive Name

A) Click on the Download button below to download the
Show_Drive_Letters_Before.zip file below.

3. Click on Save, and save the .zip file to the desktop.

4. Open the .zip file and extract the .reg file to the desktop.

5. Right click the .reg file (On Desktop) and click on Merge.

6. Click on Run, Yes, Yes, and OK when prompted.

7. Log off and log on, or restart the computer to apply.

8. When done, you can delete the downloaded .reg and .zip files on the desktop if you like.

1. Open the Start Menu.

2. In the search line, type regedit and press Enter. (See screensshot below)

3. If prompted, click on Continue in the UAC prompt.

4. In regedit, go to: (See screenshot below)

5. To Show the Driver Letters Before the Drive Name

A) In the right pane, right click on a empty area and click on New and DWORD (32-bit) Value. (See screenshot above)

B) Type ShowDriveLettersFirst and press Enter. (See screenshot below)

C) Right click on the ShowDriveLettersFirst and click on Modify. (See Screenshot above)

D) Type 4 and click on OK. (See screenshot below)

E) The registry will now look like this. (See screenshot below)

F) Go to step 6.

6. To Show the Driver Letters After the Drive Name

A) Right click on the ShowDriveLettersFirst and click on Delete. (See screenshot above)

B) Click on Yes to confirm deletion. (See screenshot below)

7. Close Regedit.

8. Log off and log on, or restart the computer to apply.
