Hello Bassman, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might see if doing a sfc /scannow command may be able to fix or restore the system files to then allow you to run the repair install. If not, then you may need to do a clean install instead.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

    Thanks

Thank you Shawn... I'll try that I had an incident a couple of weeks ago
where no matter what program I tried to start, it would start Windows
Media Center... Found a utility that restored .exe files and everything
seemed to be back to normal. But I've got things here and there that are
not working correctly. SQL 2005 just sits on 'expanding' when trying to
display tables, etc.. It also gives me an error when it starts up that it
can't find IServiceProvider..... I really think the previous incident did a
lot of damage and I'm going to have to start afresh....

    Thanks again....

    Ran SFC/SCANNOW

    Hi Shawn,
Just to let you know, I just ran the SFC/SCANNOW utility and it
finished with the normal message "Resource protection did not find
any integrety violations". Tried to run the installation again.. Same
messages du.dll missing and winsetup.dll could not load... I gotta
    do a clean install don't I???

Well, you might give a Custom install a try instead of a clean install. This way you will at least have the files from your previous installtion in the C:\Windows.old folder to copy what you want back afterwards.

    Custom Install

Do I have to re-install my programs after this custom install?
