Huh,Have I done something wrong in my repair install?
Just did a repair install(for a second time),and I was just about to prepare my self on cleaning that two junk files t$inplace and the other, when because of curiosity decided to look how much space will I gain.
And surprising thing.both folders are empty, then desktop blinked two times, and my old desktop teme appeared back.
Hm,since I know that last time when I was doing repair install,I had to clean those files manually,I was a bit surprised so I checked to see ATI control center too.It is here and in use also.Media centar gadget is here too.
So,is it possible that Microsoft changed something and updated over net while I checked "I want to make ma wnidows7 instalation better",or maybe something with my repair install went wrong?
Just to make it clear, few things that bothered me before are OK now.
What should I do?Should I do another repair install just to make sure that is it,or leave it this way because everything works fine now exept two programs which are asking me to enter serial key,and windows activatioon.

Hello Drazenn,

It sounds like everything is ok. You just need to reactivate Windows 7 and those two programs.

64 bit or 32 bit? whay is it?

I am trying to do a repair of the installation. But when I start ti I get the message below.

It's like Windows does not know that it is 64 bit. Why is that.

The original install is an upgrade of a Windows 7 beta to RTM version. But I have a problem with a security update that refuses to install. So I though I would run a repair to make sure it is OK. But, as you see, it gets confused whether it is a 64 bits or 32 bits version. It is a 64 bits version an the install DVD (which is from MSDN) asks whether to install 32 bits or 64 bits.

Anyone know how to solve this?

Regards
Per A.

The following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, complete each task, and then restart the upgrade to continue.

  • You can’t upgrade 64-bit Windows to a 32-bit version of Windows. To upgrade, obtain a 64-bit version of the installation disc, or go online to see how to install Windows 7 and keep your files and settings.

  • 32-bit Windows cannot be upgraded to a 64-bit version of Windows. To upgrade, obtain a 32-bit version of the Windows installation disc.

Hello Per A., and welcome to Seven Forums.

Double check to make sure that your installed Windows 7 and the Windows 7 installation disc are both the same 32-bit or 64-bit version. If they are, then you might try downloading a new copy of the installation disc.

Hope this helps some,
Shawn

Thanks for your answer.
They are the same 64bits, so I guess I will have to try to download a new copy of the disc.

Brink, Thanks so much for your tutorials. This is great education school. I remember discussion in Vista Forum some times ago, that tutorials does not may any sense. It is great to have you in this Forum and read so many interesting subjects.
I have some problems with subject of this tutorial. I am not sure is it good place to ask your assistance, so sorry of it.
I have "my build comp", with ASUS M2N32-SLI DeLuxe, 8 MB memory, two Nvidia GeForce 8500Gt (SLI), with AMD Athlon(tm)64X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+ 3.01 GHz. As OS is Microsoft Windows 7 Ultima x64. As per System information, Windows is activated, has product ID and Key number.
Going with your tutorial, with internet is On, after check last screen upgrade, get this information:
"You canít upgrade 64-bit Windows to a 32-bit version of Windows. To upgrade, obtain a 64-bit version of the installation disc, or go online to see how to install Windows 7 and keep your files and settings.
32-bit Windows cannot be upgraded to a 64-bit version of Windows. To upgrade, obtain a 32-bit version of the Windows installation disc".
Of course my OS is x64 so my DVD is x64.
Will appreciate your comments please.
Please accept my best regards
