Repair Install

Thanks for the input Kenny. I've experienced similar problems with updating windows both automatically and manually. It seems stuck in an endless loop. It's curious why a repair install would cause that to happen. I've read other accounts of it occurring though.

yeah it did need to download the files first, i had my settings to download files and choose whether to install and later it had 226 updates to install with 8 optional. internet explorer 11 was one of the optional 8. i'm installing the updates to see if that helps get things completely back to normal.

I'd be interested to know if you can get it all back to normal. I might need to do a repair install myself because I keep getting certificate validity problems when trying to install some net.framework components.

I'm stuck at step 12. The program complains of several compatibility issues. Some I could fix, but with others I don't know what to do. These are the ones I fixed:

• Network adapters: Surf Wireless Micro USB Adapter.
  Updated driver, fixed.
• Network adapters: Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller.
  Updated driver, fixed.
• Compatibility issues with iTunes.
  Uninstalled it, fixed.

And these the ones that keep me stuck:

• VNUSB Device: VN Series Device.
  Don't even know what to do with this.
• System devices: Intel(R) Management Engine Interface.
  For this one and the next one I installed the Intel Driver Update Utility. However, the utility says all my drivers are up to date.
• System devices: Intel(R) 6 Series/C200 Series Chipset Family SMBus Controller - 1C22
• Image devices: HP Deskjet 1510 series (USB).
  This is my printer/scanner. For this one and the next I installed the last driver from HP, but the installer still complains.
• Universal series bus controller: HP Deskjet 1510 series(REST).
  It's funny that this is listed as a USB controller. Might be related to the problem?

Any suggestions?

Thank you for the advice. I did continue with the install repair in spite of the warnings and it kinda worked, but with a lot of problems. The main one is that Windows Update doesn't work now. I'll explain in detail everything I did. Probably most of it is irrelevant, but I include it in case it helps clarifying the problem:

Started the repair install and kept using the PC for some other stuff in the meantime (hope this didn't cause problems). At some point the installation tried to restart the computer, but couldn't do so because I had some files open. Closed my files and restarted the computer manually.

From that point the screen went blank for hours. After a few hours I saw that the computer had entered sleep or hybernation or something similar (orange light in the power button) so I started it, hoping that the screen would finally show something. It didn't, and, again, after some time, the computer hybernated. I started the computer again, same thing again, repeated a few times until eventually the monitor showed the Windows login screen.

Logged in, activated Windows and went straight to Windows Update. Windows Update searched for a few hours and eventually returned an error code saying it couldn't update anything (didn't write down the code). Restarted the computer and had again the problem of blank screen -> hybernate -> turn on several times until the monitor worked.

Tried Windows Update again and this time it doesn't return any error, it just stays stuck there looking for updates (it's been about 14 hours now).

Apart from that, I am trying the repair install because the computer has a number of problems. The most important one is that the CPU usage is always high, even when the computer is idle. That problem remains.

Also, I use a time tracking tool called ManicTime which has stopped working since I did the repair install.

What can I do?
