How to Completely Uninstall Avast Antivirus
InformationThis tutorial will guide you through removing Avast products completely from your machine, either so you may reinstall it or make sure everything is cleaned up to move to a new anti-virus.
This guide assumes you have no antivirus protection installed at the moment. If you do, disable it during this guide as it may interfere with this procedure.
WarningAlways Uninstall Avast Anti-virus the proper way through Control Panel - Uninstall A Program when possible.
Then continue to this method. If the uninstaller fails for whatever reason, then attempt this method.
1.) First, download the avast removal tool here:
2.) Close all programs. Open the file you just downloaded.
3.) The utility opens, Choose yes to restart in safe mode like in the picture below.
4.) The system will restart and automatically launch safe mode. Once started in safe mode, the login prompt appears. Log into your account like normal, and you will be greeted with the below image. Click the 3 dots (the browse button indicated by step 1) and choose the folder avast is installed in.
TipThis is typically found in C:\program files, or C:\program files (x86). Make sure to check both program folders if you are unable to locate it. Cannot find the folder still? Skip choosing a folder and choose the uninstall button.
5.) Click uninstall as the picture shows above (step 2).
6.) The PC will then restart and reboot back into Windows. Log in with your account, and then move to step 7.
7.) Download and Run the avast cleanup tool from rejzor's website (Source Below), this will remove additional things that the avast uninstaller tool sometimes fails to get. Stuck drivers, leftover folders, reg keys etc.
8.) Close all programs once more. Open the file you downloaded, and extract it. Then double click avast! Cleanup Tool.exe
It will open and uac will prompt you. Choose continue or yes. It will then display this screen:
9.) Click Accept. Then you will see this:
10.) Read the agreement, then click agree. Wait until the black box goes away. Once it disappears, restart the PC.
11.) You are all done!
