(3) Is there a way to register dlls without downloading an extra file? 1. C:\Program Files\Movie Maker on your Vista machine
2. Yes and yes.
3. The dll registration download is just a little script that runs regsvr 32 for the appropriate dll files. If you have concerns about it, you could just download it, unzip it, open the "install moviemk dlls.cmd" file in Notepad and see what it is doing. You could even do the dll registration yourself, one file at a time based on what you see in the "install moviemk dlls.cmd" file.
I would just run the script to save keystrokes though. Just follow the steps in the first post of this thread and have fun editing your movies... | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Dell E520 OS Windows 7 Enterprise x64 SP1, Ubuntu 11.04 x64 CPU Core2Quad Q6700 - 2.66 GHz Motherboard Whatever the heck Dell put in there... Hi dgenx210, thanks for the tutorial, I've just copied the folder across as per your instructions. One question for you though: Is it possible to register the dll's without overwriting/replacing Windows 7's movie maker? I'd still like the option to use both | My System Specs | | OS XP Pro/Vista Ultimate (64)/Windows 7 Ultimate Signature Edition(64) CPU Core 2 Duo E8500 @ stock Motherboard Gigabyte EP45-UD3R Memory 8Gb (4 X 2Gb) Corsair Dominator 1066Mhz DDR2 Graphics Card XFX ATI Radeon 4870 1Gb Sound Card Onboard 7.1 Monitor(s) Displays BenQ E2200Hd, Asus VW161D, HP L1506 Screen Resolution 1920 X 1080 Keyboard Logitech Mouse Logitech PSU CoolerMaster 650 EPD Case Thermaltake Cooling 2 X Noctua 120mm's, Stock Intel Hard Drives Seagate 7200.12 500Gb

I did the tweak as per the above instructions and I still have the Live WMM available. I think there is no need to twist the .dlls. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba - 4 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista, Windows7, Mint Mate, Zorin, Windows 8 CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to i7 Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse Trackball mice Hard Drives 5x HDD, 7x SSD, 12x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |

Hi, I want to do this, but there is one small problem: I never had Vista, and my old computer can't start up so I can't get anything from there. Basically, I don't have any old files of WMM that I need to do the first step. Isn't there a way to get WMM without getting any old files? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Gateway SX2802-07 OS Windows 7 CPU Intel Pentium E5300 Motherboard WG43M Graphics Card Intel(R) G45/G43 Express Chipset Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Acer S232HL Keyboard Standard PS/2 Mouse HID-Compliant |

There are some links on page 2 of this thread from where you can download it. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba - 4 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista, Windows7, Mint Mate, Zorin, Windows 8 CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to i7 Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse Trackball mice Hard Drives 5x HDD, 7x SSD, 12x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |

Okay guys, this is what happened: I dl-ed the files from those dl links, did the folder (called Windows Movie Maker 6.0), but there were problems that made it not able to launch:
wmm2ae.dll was loaded but the call to DLLRegisterServer failed with error code 0x80070005
It says the same for wmm2clip.dll, filt, Video Media Handler, and Pipeline.
There was only one (forgot the name) that did work, though.
I need help, please. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Gateway SX2802-07 OS Windows 7 CPU Intel Pentium E5300 Motherboard WG43M Graphics Card Intel(R) G45/G43 Express Chipset Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Acer S232HL Keyboard Standard PS/2 Mouse HID-Compliant |

I already have those; do I simply move them to the folder, nothing else?
EDIT: Wasn't there a post above this one? I thought there was, that's why I said that.
EDIT2: I was referring to the three WMM 7z that you could download back in page 2 or 3. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Gateway SX2802-07 OS Windows 7 CPU Intel Pentium E5300 Motherboard WG43M Graphics Card Intel(R) G45/G43 Express Chipset Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Acer S232HL Keyboard Standard PS/2 Mouse HID-Compliant OS Vista x64 / 7 X64 CPU E8400 Motherboard ASRock 1333 GLAN R2.0 Memory 2x1 gb 800mhz Graphics Card 9500gt 1gb Case Coolermaster Cooling Winpower 500w Hard Drives Maxtor 160gb-2mb cache |

That's what I downloaded. Do I put them in the folder, no changes to their filenames or anything? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Gateway SX2802-07 OS Windows 7 CPU Intel Pentium E5300 Motherboard WG43M Graphics Card Intel(R) G45/G43 Express Chipset Sound Card Realtek High Definition Audio Monitor(s) Displays Acer S232HL Keyboard Standard PS/2 Mouse HID-Compliant Windows Movie Maker 6.0 - Install on Windows 7 problems?
