    my computer attempts to do the chkdsk on start up but when it says press any key to cancel ... before it starts anything.. it cancels its self and cant figure out why

    Hello cozzu,

    Double check to make sure that you do not have a key on your keyboard that is stuck pressed down.

    In addition, check the chkdsk log in Event Viewer to see if it may help ID what the issue may be.

    I've seen that problem quite a number of times over the years, even on systems that had W7 SP1, which includes the patch mentioned in this thread:
    Chkdsk doesn't--on reboot, the message "To skip disk check press any key..." countdown stops at 1

    cozzu didn't mention his specific OS though.

    hmm i tried this morning and it stops automatically then tries again gets to 1 and stops saying it cannot run cause of a recent program i have installed..

    I tried the post from above and downloaded the hotfix but it wouldnt instal onto my computer says this update is not acceptable for your computer
    Yes i downloaded the right hotfix

    I have windows 7 home premium 64 - bit sp1
