    Hello sfwul,

    You can run chkdsk in separate command prompt window per drive to be able to run chkdsk on multiple drives simultaneously. :)

    Thanks.

    For good order's sake: in my post, 2nd line at the end, I wrote a 'c:' plus a ')' which was confusing as it returned into a smiley, obviously.

    what I meant is:
    RMB C-drive properties->tab Tool -> [Check now...]
    offers users to schedule a chkdsk, so it next reboot it will run the chkdsk.

    My idea was then to run it multiple drives - it will take hours, so I would then go on to do something else in the meantime.

    But you are right (of course...): the task can be performed running it from multiple CMD sessions.
    Didn't of it.

    I'm not aware of a way to schedule it to automatically run on multiple drives at boot like that. The only workaround that I know of are the multiple CMD sessions.

    I discovered I had and error on my computer when I tried to make a backup and a system image in case there was a future problem with this computer and I do not want to lose very important sorftware I can not get again.
    So I tried to do a check disk and selected fix errors. then I got the message it can not do it because "C" is being used, then i followed the instructions I saw in here about scheduling it after start up & to be careful to not cancel it....OK so i restarted immediately after clicking the "schedule thing" and waited and waited and waited, until me desktop is sitting there and nothing seems to be going on....zip...nota...how do I get this dang check disk thing to work?

    Hello, and welcome to Seven Forums.

    If you like, you could use option 2 to manually run chkdsk in a command prompt at boot.

    The tutorial below can help show you how to open a command prompt at boot.

    Command Prompt at Startup

    From there, it's just a matter of following the steps in option 2 on the first post here.

    If you have any questions on the steps, please just let me know.
