Did you have the default background displayed before installing the program? If so, try uninstalling and reinstalling the program.

I´m sorry, but my background was already black. Than I tried fix it with the new program - without success.

Did you get any type of "Windows is not genuine" message?

If not, then as a test, create a new administrator account to see if you have the default background in it instead of a black one.

If it's still black, then you may have a bad installation and may need to do a repair installl.

I hate to get into conspiracy theories, but I believe that earlier this year Windows 7 starter was quietly tweaked to disable any attempts at modifying the wall paper using the suggested methods.

I have a DELL mini10 and have tried modifying it thru the registry and the Oceanis software, both failed. I'm sure there will be another work around soon enough, but It is chintzy on the part of MICROSOFT to delete such a basic feature. Frankly, I would be happy if I could make the background black, with say a little blinking cursor bottom left..................I'm such a Luddite

Anyway, I look forward to those much cleverer than I to find a work around.

There is a solution, which I discovered: this will overcome all kinds of problems!

It's a program that mimics the Personalize option on the desktop, when right clicking the desktop. Although the program shows a little bit of the French language, and the site is in French, it works like a charm!

is there any risks downloading oceanic and using it I just got my netbook with windows 7 starter and i want to change my background but i do not want to mess up my computer. And if i have problems like another people that posted stuff i can i fix it back to normal if it does not work. please!!! help i am going to wait on the download until you reply.

Yes, the program is safe. I would not post a program that wasn't and could do any harm.

If you like, you can create a restore point before installing the program. This way if you experience any problems with it, you can do a system restore to back to that restore point to completely undo it.

When I installed this on a BRAND NEW netbook, i restarted and it stopped all services on my computer, killed the wifi, killed my antivirus, killed my sound, and removed the aero theme. the only thing it did was change the background but everything else broke. What is going on? There are definitely no malicious software on this computer, its less than 24hrs old and i've only installed the usual software i use
