Hi there checked again on another machine
Yes it's definitely a Defect in 7048 -- however I'm not changing desktops too often so this I can live with.
(Actually the standard logon screen in 7048 isn't too hideous but it's nice being able to customize it easily).
Cheers

Nope, you had it almost correct Jimbo. It's when you change themes is when the log on screen goes back to default. I added a warning under OPTION ONE for a workaround for this. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self built custom OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Intel i7-980X 3.3 Ghz (3.48 Ghz OC'd) Motherboard ASUS P6X58D Premium Memory 12 GB (2GBx6) DDR3 PC3-16000 2000 MHz Kingston HyperX Graphics Card Sapphire HD5870 Eyefinity 6 2GB Sound Card Realtek HD Audio ALC889 Integrated Chip Monitor(s) Displays 3x 27" Asus VE278Q Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution Mouse Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution PSU OCZ Series Gold OCZZ1000M 1000W Case Corsair Obsidian 800D Cooling Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme Copper CPU heat sink w/120 MM Hard Drives 160GB OCZ RevoDrive X2

You can use Local Group policy instead of the registry to enable this setting:
Computer Configuration: Administrative Templates: All Settings
Always use custom logon background = Enable
I had found this when first looking to change the background but it never said what folder it looked at to set the background. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 x64 CPU AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ Memory 2.25 GB Graphics Card ATI Radeon HD 4550 Monitor(s) Displays ViewSonic VA1912wb, Gateway EV700 Screen Resolution 1440*900, 1024*768 Keyboard Logitech G15 Other Info Just a humdrum little system. |

No go with the 7000 build here. Apparently even after removing the LogonStudio Vista program and resetting the dword value back to 1 since that was found reset the logon screen placed by the LSV tool remains. I'll make an attempt at using that to reset the default flying fish and then reinstalling after looking over the group policy idea.
Type group policy at the Start>search line to see "edit group policy" on the first link.
Once you select the item under administration>system>logon double click on it and change from the not configured to enable tick to see... | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, MS XP Mode, VBox, VMLite Workstation, VM Player 4.0 CPU AMD Phenom II X4 Deneb 3.4 Motherboard Gigabyte 790XTA-UD4 Memory Mushkin Enhanced DDR3 1600 8gb 1.5v-1.7v Graphics Card MSI Radeon 5750 1gb Sound Card Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeGamer Monitor(s) Displays 2 x Acer P191W 19" widesscreen Screen Resolution 1440x900 native Keyboard Microsoft Recusa Razor Mouse MS Trackball Explorer PSU Corsair 750TX Case Antec 900-2 - SSD compatible Cooling Zalman CNPS9900A Hard Drives WD Black Edition 1tb Sata 6.0 = 2

I tried This way using the download, and still doesn't work.
I'm running 7057 64bit, the only thing that I really see that is differant from the how to's is my resolution is 2560x1600.
Here is a SS of my backgrounds folders. Folders are correct and i will assume the registry is correct, so the only other thing to check is to make sure the pic is not larger than 256 kb. | My System Specs | | |

The reg file downloads have been updated to include the below entries. I have tested this, and the log on screen no longer changes when the theme is changed.

That will be a big help right off. Since this is something totally new for the new OS it takes a litle time to get everything worked out. | My System Specs | | OS Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, MS XP Mode, VBox, VMLite Workstation, VM Player 4.0 CPU AMD Phenom II X4 Deneb 3.4 Motherboard Gigabyte 790XTA-UD4 Memory Mushkin Enhanced DDR3 1600 8gb 1.5v-1.7v Graphics Card MSI Radeon 5750 1gb Sound Card Creative Labs X-Fi XtremeGamer Monitor(s) Displays 2 x Acer P191W 19" widesscreen Screen Resolution 1440x900 native Keyboard Microsoft Recusa Razor Mouse MS Trackball Explorer PSU Corsair 750TX Case Antec 900-2 - SSD compatible Cooling Zalman CNPS9900A Hard Drives WD Black Edition 1tb Sata 6.0 = 2

Hi there -- I was going to modify my post -- but you've done it for me.
Thanks
I don't change the theme very often but if I do your option 1 is fine.
BTW removing completely Logon Vista Studio is a pain -- I opted for the "Easy way" - just restored an Image -- 15 Mins using Acronis Workstation True Image. (Some people have probs with this because they forget sometimes a hidden partition -- If you get a BSOD after restoring an image just insert your Windows 7 install disk and go to "Repair system" -- it will "Mend" the boot manager -- that's what is usually broken when you fail to restore that partition as well.
Even if you remove logon Vista studio any login pics you created are STILL there so the best thing is to "Clean" your system with a restore.
(Another good reason for taking plenty of backups before messing around - especially with this type of stuff).
Cheers

Hi Jimbo,
Yeah, that's why I dislike modifying system files like the way Logon Vista Studio does. The way Windows 7 allows now is much better.
Thanks to Loki, I have updated the tutorial so that the theme issue is no longer a issue. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Self built custom OS Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1 CPU Intel i7-980X 3.3 Ghz (3.48 Ghz OC'd) Motherboard ASUS P6X58D Premium Memory 12 GB (2GBx6) DDR3 PC3-16000 2000 MHz Kingston HyperX Graphics Card Sapphire HD5870 Eyefinity 6 2GB Sound Card Realtek HD Audio ALC889 Integrated Chip Monitor(s) Displays 3x 27" Asus VE278Q Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution Mouse Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution PSU OCZ Series Gold OCZZ1000M 1000W Case Corsair Obsidian 800D Cooling Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme Copper CPU heat sink w/120 MM Hard Drives 160GB OCZ RevoDrive X2
