Freezing

Hiya,

I also had to rename the Windows Mail folder to something else, then I pasted the "Vista" Windows Mail. However, trying to open Windows Mail makes Windows 7 freeze and just generally slows down completely.

Any ideas?

Hello Siljel, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You might consider using Windows Live Mail instead since Windows Mail support is fading and will not be supported at all in Windows 7 by Microsoft.

If you decide to, then these can help with importing your Windows Mail messages and contacts.

Hope this helps,

Sorry tried it twice to the letter

I have tried this twice now to the letter and cant get it to work, I have copied it all over etc, set the shortcut but when i try and open it it just takes forever and looks the computer up - please any ideas - as i love windows mail and dont want to go any other way!

Thank you in advance.

*** update - could it be that my vista is 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit?

Id really like to use Windows 7 but this is putting me off, if it is that I need a 64 vista win mail file, please can anyone share one with me. Thank you

Can I get Windows Mail into Win 7 that was not upgraded? A clean install by Acer?
I assume this will not work for me?
Also the gadget bar is nice.

Ok, I have to admit when I'm wrong. I installed live mail, but during the live installation, I unchecked everything except mail. So none of the other crap was installed. There is no log in, unless you want to. The mail works just like windows mail with more features. I like it. I'm usually slow to change old habits, but give the mail only installation a try, you may like it. I checked silverlight too, for netflix. But this method of installing windows mail does work, I just couldnt get it to save as default mail handler.

Mad Mavis,

I use Win 7 x64 and got it to work OK. Did you miss out step 1 by any chance: take ownership of folders?

I remember having some difficulty on one of my Win 7 partitions (I have 2) and it turned out that I had not, in fact, followed every step exactly as shown.
Once I did it properly then it worked.

If you need a Windows Mail folder I uploaded a pristine one to Megaupload ages ago. Anyone is free to use it. I did post the link to it here earlier on I believe but here goes again.

Thats a the 64 bit vista files that some need to get the Windows Mail working in Windows 7 x64. Great a must have for users going from 32 bit to 64. Thanks. I will tag this for future refs

If you are following the tutorial at the first of the post. Then take ownership of your current WM folder then delete it. Replace it with the vista folder you just downloaded and open the exe file.
