That is what I figured must be happening with my AU3 scripts as well.

Your latest AHK script works fine, thanks (I use it with autohide OFF, but it also works for me with autohide ON, as you are using it). The only kludge is that after having clicked the Taskbar one has to click anywhere on the Desktop (or a third window, as you also stated). Tis a pity that this action does not send the Taskbar all the way to the back, but merely sends it to the back of the active window, so if there are multiple windows overlapping the Taskbar, one has to click all of them to get them all back in front of the Taskbar again. Still, this saves me from having to click my pinned script all the time.

You are welcome, Samuel. I wish it were perfect, but I have don't have enough Windows knowledge to make it so, even if it were possible... but it is good enough for me for now. Glad to know it works with AutoHide=Off also, I figured that was somewhat orthogonal, but I never got around to verifying that it was.

This thread may be interesting to you: Send window to back but the Alt-Escape doesn't seem to do much to the taskbar in a quick try, it does work for other windows. Not sure if the program/script would do better on the taskbar.

Of course, you only need to bring windows you presently care about back in front of taskbar, that may or may not always be all of them that overlap.

Update for Explorer version 6.1.7601.17567

Thanks Tweaker for your time and effort doing this tool.
I am not able to install it due to the same issue reported in posts 161 & 164:
"Unknown Explorer version (6.1.7601.17567), can't apply patch"
I am running Windows 7 Enterprise x64.
Is there an update? I will appreciate very much.

Simple Fix

Oxgt2E, I have found that if one intentionally or accidently uses F11 to maximize the workspace, will in advertantly place the taskbar behind the open window. Try doing F11 and then re-maximize the wind to fit the screen. It worked for me after a lot a wasted research, and a little bit of frantic trial and error.

Auto-hide the taskbar not working

I'm not sure if your post solves my problem, but no matter what I do in Windows 7 x64, I can NOT hide the taskbar. Any help?

Windows 7 Taskbar Masher

I've written a new program that keeps the taskbar behind other Explorer Windows. It's called "Win7TaskbarMasher". It's open-source and free. The work is based on many ideas posted on this thread.

Website: Win7 Taskbar Masher

This is very much beta software and I appreciate all comments and suggestions.

It would probably be best to continue this discussion on a new tutorial thread, but I lack permission on this forum to start one.

Thanks to everyone who contributed ideas!

Great work hsparks !!!
Just a quick question, do you think you can find a way to have the windows on top when they are maximized ?
Cheers

Windows 7 Taskbar Masher

It's easy to programatically reposition and resize a window. The problem in this case is to hijack the maximize button and redirect it along with the window handle to some other code. I suspect that would involve getting into Explorer's event loop. I'll look around, but I suspect tampering with the internals of Explorer would lead back to the situation where the code breaks with every Explorer update.

Thank God!

What a great workaround! Thank you. Too bad the a-holes at MS created and refused to fix this debacle. What an arrogant bunch of morons, starting with BG.

It's a big deal to me because I use a very large left taskbar.
