It might be an idea to add a statement to the tutorial saying that it would be a good idea to create a restore point before doing this.

Hello Nick, I meant to do that and got side tracked, I'll do that after work today; thanks for reminding me.

    Hello wysiwyg.

Is there something like "storage configuration" or something similar?
Found s/con on MAIN in Bios, AHCI doesn't show until you change IDE to AHCI,

Did all requirements but I wondered why I bothered for the difference it made.

    The only difference is
    Cpu up from 7.3,
    Ram up from 7.5

    Graphics and Disk no difference.

    Thanks for the info BFK

I always install Windows 7 in AHCI mode. I have found this will allow me to switch between IDE and AHCI.....it seems to work great, but sometimes people don't have the option or it comes pre-installed. This is great information.

Hello wysiwyg, I'm glad you got it sorted.

Hello Nate, this is the first I've run AHCI.

Hey BFK, I have run tests switching between the two settings with my hard drives and SSDs. They are just a bit faster on AHCI but you do have "hot plugging" and other things with AHCI.

Patriot recommends IDE for their SSDs right now, and some of the firmware updates and performance restore utilities don't run very well in AHCI

Anyway, thanks again for this info

Hello Nate, thanks for your info; hot plugging is what I'm interested in.

This is an interesting page. Native Command Queuing is another benefit.
