    Joan,

Its my understanding that acronis does not function in windows 7 RTM, are you using windows 7 RC?

Its also my understanding that that all versions above starter have the System Image function but 7 Pro and Ult versions can additionally save to network (and DVD?).
Thanks Shawn has now cleared it up for me, as to the first part of your reply at present I don't have any version of Windows 7 on here. I used to run the Beta version but due to one thing and another stopped, I'm now awaiting my purchase of Windows 7 Home Edition in October and for a while will dual boot with Vista.

I understand there are issues with Acronis TIH 2009.

Oddly, I have ATI 11 and it works OK. It's just that others are better now, smaller, faster, more features - other people are building better mousetraps.
I have version 2009 of Acronis, also 8,10,11, lets hope that by the time Windows 7 hits the shops Acronis will work

I am using windows image backup to create a system image backup of my hard drive but it keeps writing over the old image files. I have read that you can get it to keep more then one copy and i have over 100gb free but i have not figured out how to do that. Does anyone have any thoughts? Thanks

    Hello Irus,

If you save the image backup to the same location, then the backup will be incremental by default to save only what has changed since the last image backup. This cannot be changed. The only work around is to save the image backup to a different partition or drive then the other one.

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

Sorry for the lack of knowledge, but once you have this "image" saved (say on an external HDD) will you be able to re-image your machine (or another) like the way Ghost or other program do (in other works is this a files back only up or complete system clone)?

Hello AEM, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It's a complete system clone option.

To restore system image: System Image Recovery

To extract and restore specific files from system image: System Image - Extract Files Using Disk Management

    Hope this helps,
    Shawn

You can effectively do this using the first option above using your Windows 7 installation disc, but not from DOS or the command prompt.

    I have 3 partitions on my drive (C D E) and Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit.

When I go to create a system image, it offers to create it on drive E (which is fine) but has selected both C and D as source drives, and D can't be deselected. It calls it a system drive, same as C.

Not sure why, except I installed Office 2007 on D, so maybe that's the reason.

It's not a huge problem, but I would prefer to be able to image only Drive C. Is there some way to rectify this?
