I tried this but after the reboot it still says that I have 4gig installed but 2.00 GB is usable. I think maybe I should try to install and run 64bit?? Not sure. But thank you for your help thus far. Nice to find a place where people do give you some answers to questions...
Great post

Billy Go into Resource Monitor > Memory tab and look at the colored bar. What does it say all the way to the left (the gray portion).

whs,
I like it. I'll need to remember to tell people to get the "pictorial" view. I'd always used MSINFO32 but consider your approach better for memory overview. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Toshiba Satellite S875D-S7239 laptop OS MS Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit CPU AMD A10-4600M Motherboard AMD Pumori (Socket FT1) Memory 6.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 798MHz (11-11-12-28) Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD 7660G Sound Card High Definition Audio Device Monitor(s) Displays Generic PnP Monitor (1600x900@60Hz) Screen Resolution 1600x900@60Hz Keyboard Standard PS/2 Keyboard Mouse HP Wireless Optical Mobile Mouse Model FHA-3410 Hard Drives SSD 119GB Corsair CSSD-V128GB2 ATA Device Internet Speed What the local pub, local coffee shop offers. @Karl, Yeah, with MSINFO32 (or SYSTEM) you get too much other info. May be confusing.
@Brink, thanks for the link. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP, Dell, Gateway, Toshiba - 4 laptops and 2 desktops OS Vista, Windows7, Mint Mate, Zorin, Windows 8 CPU from 1.6GHz Duo to i7 Monitor(s) Displays 2x HP w2207 Keyboard with trackball - no mices Mouse Trackball mice Hard Drives 5x HDD, 7x SSD, 12x Externals Internet Speed DSL 6000 |

Hey Brink. Very nice tutorial.
When I open up Ms config and select advanced boot. The default ram is 0. Is this normal or am I miss reading something?

Thanks Simon Hello Simon,
Yes, that's the default setting as WHS posted above. When the Maximum Memory "box" is unchecked, then Windows 7 will use all available installed RAM by default. It's only when you check this box and select how many GB of RAM you want Windows 7 to use instead of the default. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Self built custom OS 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 & Windows 8 Enterprise CPU Intel i7-3930K 3.2 Ghz (O/C 4 Ghz) Motherboard ASRock X79 Extreme11 Memory 32 GB (8GBx4) G.SKILL DDR3 Quad PC3-19200 2400MHz Graphics Card Sapphire HD5870 Eyefinity 6 2GB Sound Card SB Recon 3Di Integrated Chip Monitor(s) Displays 3x 27" Asus VE278Q Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution Mouse Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution PSU OCZ Series Gold OCZZ1000M 1000W Case Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Edition Cooling Corsair Hydro H100 Hard Drives 256GB OCZ Vector

Hi Brink,
I noticed the warning, that you will not be able to change settings back.
This is a permanent setting, or did I misunderstand.
Experimenting is probably not advised then? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number Laptop Acer Aspire 6930 OS Windows 7 Professional CPU Intel Core2 Duo CPU T6400 @ 2.00GHz Memory 3 GB Graphics Card lowly Intel Express Chipset WHOPPING 64 mb dedicated.LOL Monitor(s) Displays 26" RCA and 40" Haier, and laptop 17" screen Screen Resolution 26":1366X768 40":1920X1080 Laptop Screen: 1366X768 Keyboard Microsoft Intellitype Wireless Multimedia Keyboard 1.1 Mouse Microsoft Wireless Optical Mouse 2000 Hard Drives Onboard HDD 300 GB/

Hello J.P.,
You will still be able to go back and make changes again if you like. It's a sort of misleading warning that it gives you. It would be better if it read that it saves your setting changes so that they are not temporary after a restart or log off instead. | My System Specs | | Computer type PC/Desktop System Manufacturer/Model Number Self built custom OS 64-bit Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 & Windows 8 Enterprise CPU Intel i7-3930K 3.2 Ghz (O/C 4 Ghz) Motherboard ASRock X79 Extreme11 Memory 32 GB (8GBx4) G.SKILL DDR3 Quad PC3-19200 2400MHz Graphics Card Sapphire HD5870 Eyefinity 6 2GB Sound Card SB Recon 3Di Integrated Chip Monitor(s) Displays 3x 27" Asus VE278Q Screen Resolution 1920x1080 Keyboard Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution Mouse Logitech Cordless Desktop MX 5500 Revolution PSU OCZ Series Gold OCZZ1000M 1000W Case Thermaltake Level 10 GT Snow Edition Cooling Corsair Hydro H100 Hard Drives 256GB OCZ Vector
