Ted, if you think it works well, I certainly have no objections. I think Captain Jack is right. It probably should be in your first post.

    Hello Carl.

If it's ok with you I'll add it, give me a couple days as I'm a bit busy lately but I will add it.

Thanks, it does make more sense that way.

carl i think your batch file is slightly wrong, i get "the filename directory name or volume syntax is incorrect" it still works because it has defaulted to C:\windows\system 32 anyway but on the first line, rather than "cd\C:\windows\system 32" shouldnt it be "cd c:\windows\system 32 (with a space instead of the slash)
Always having to change the directory, or anything else that requires a switch, is one of the more annoying things about the Command Prompt in Windows. You would think that by now Microsoft would have made the Command Prompt more user friendly for the novice. It should have full mouse, and keyboard functionality, so you can do what you like, when you like, without having to use switches. The Command Prompt is still archaic after all these years. What a drag.

I always remove the starting default directory by hacking the registry. That way all I get when Command Prompt opens is the blinking cursor. Then I can start from wherever I want to.

By the way, did anyone actually recover any significant amout of HDD space? Mine was just a couple MB's.

For those that don't know yet, I've added the info about how to use Carl's .bat file to add a shortcut to the desktop, I hope it makes it easier to use.

You are very welcome, Martin. Back in the days of Windows 3.0/3.1 and Windows 98, I got pretty good with batch files. Now I am having to relearn it!
