    Hi,

I have just tryed your method, but i seem to be having some problems.

I have an XPS M1530 laptop, and an official verion of Window 7 and an Official version of XP SP3. (Both from MSDN with serials)

I have 7 pre-installed, and i have shrank the partition by 10Gb, see screenshot.

When i reboot and select "Boot from CD/DVD Drive" XP starts to copy over the files, then i get the option to install a new copy, or repair an existing installation of XP.

so i select the "Install New" and i get a screen stating that "No hard Disks are installed"

    Please can you advise?

    thanks

I don't understand all of it but wanted to say thanks

Pretty much a beginner at trouble shooting and am having trouble with my new Lenovo T500. I deleted the Applesyncnotifier file and can't get it back because the machine locks up at the destop. I'm trying to fid a solution and was thinking of loading XP as one of them.
Your explaination is excellent but probably a little advanced for me.

METHOD TWO - XP install - BSOD

Hello Brink, I have tried METHOD TWO exactly as described, (Step 1 in win7 disk manager looks the same as yours), Step 2 works until XP CD boots up, loads the drivers, then says Starting Win XP Setup (or to the affect) then I get BSOD. I've tried other XP install disc that end in the same net result. It looks like a lot of people are having similar issues, is it an initial driver issue that the instill disk doesn't have? How do we fix this? Just trying to dual boot 7 (installed 1st) and XP (2nd), Have a new PowerSpec G157, 4gb ram, Intel 7i processor, 1TB sata drive.

Thx. for your time and help,
    ItNoWorkie.

Hello ItNoWorkie, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Is that HDD setup as a RAID?

METHOD TWO - XP install - BSOD

Hey Brink, It is just Disk0 (basic one disk setup, no strips, or extra disks) very similar to your Method 2 step 1. In the BIOS not sure yet what that is set to though. Will check. But if not raid, where do we go from there?

    Thx. again,

    ItNoWorkie.

Go ahead and post a screenshot of your Disk Management screen to show the drive layout to see if something there may be it.

Here ya go Brink. This is from Win7 Disk Manager.

Dual Boot Installation with Windows 7 and XP-discmngr1.jpg

Brink, I did look in the BIOS under config>SATA drive>Chipset-Sata Controller config>Chipset-SATA Mode=RAID (Options are IDE,RAID, and AHCI)
    S.M.A.R.T. = Enable

There was a note on the side bar that said:
"Drivers required for AHCI on XP
    and RAID on any OS"
I assume they mean RAID drivers on any OS.

How would I go about hunting these drivers down and how do I load them during XP booting and driver loading, specially since I do not have an A: floppy drive? Doesn't XP default to A:?

The desktop board info: Intel Corp
    Productname: DP55WG
    Version:AAE57269-404

    Thx. again,
    ItNoWorkie.

I found this link for your RAID drivers for your DP55WG motherboard below:

RAID: Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Driver for Intel Desktop Boards

You can download the correct driver ZIP file, and extract the files from ZIP to a USB flash drive. The USB flash drive will act like a floppy drive at boot if you have your BIOS settings set to allow booting from a USB device. You should be able to select the USB flash drive if you have the option to load your RAID drivers during installation.

Thx. Brink for all the help.

"Drivers required for AHCI on XP"
What is AHCI and would the same intel site have those drivers as well?

    Thx. again,
