Hello,
Thank you very much for these very clear instructions.
I followed them precisely, but when I entered my user name and new password as described in section #12, I received a message saying that my user name was not recognized.
Help please.
Sincerely,
Bill | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number HP Pavillion Elite OS Windows 7 Home 64bit |

Hello Inukshuk, welcome to Seven Forums!
If your username is like mine, more than one word, you must use the quote marks around your username for it to complete successfully. "Bare Foot Kid " Quote: 12) When the PC restarts a Command window will open, in that window type "net user <username> <new password>" mine is (net user "Bare Foot Kid" Test6) be advised: if you have a username like mine, with spaces, you must use " " quotes around the user name; | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number * BFK Customs * OS W 7 64-bit Ultimate CPU Intel Q9550 Yorkfield Motherboard ASUS P5Q Pro Memory 8GB Dominator 8500C5D Graphics Card ATI : XFX 5870 Sound Card Realtek HD Audio 7-1 Monitor(s) Displays 1x 47" LCD HDMI & 3x 26" LCD HDMI Screen Resolution 1920x1080P & 1920x1200 Keyboard Microsoft 500 Mouse Razer Diamondback 3G PSU Corsair 620HX Case Cooler Master RC-690 Cooling Tuniq Tower 120, 2x 140mm and 3x 120mm case fans Hard Drives 1x 80GB Intel X25-M G2 SSD : 1x 500GB & 1x 640GB WD Caviar Black(s) Internet Speed 14 Mb/s Other Info 1x Koutech 3Gb/s SATA HDD Hot Swap Rack |

Hello Bill.
See if using "quote" marks around the username will sort it for you. | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number * BFK Customs * OS W 7 64-bit Ultimate CPU Intel Q9550 Yorkfield Motherboard ASUS P5Q Pro Memory 8GB Dominator 8500C5D Graphics Card ATI : XFX 5870 Sound Card Realtek HD Audio 7-1 Monitor(s) Displays 1x 47" LCD HDMI & 3x 26" LCD HDMI Screen Resolution 1920x1080P & 1920x1200 Keyboard Microsoft 500 Mouse Razer Diamondback 3G PSU Corsair 620HX Case Cooler Master RC-690 Cooling Tuniq Tower 120, 2x 140mm and 3x 120mm case fans Hard Drives 1x 80GB Intel X25-M G2 SSD : 1x 500GB & 1x 640GB WD Caviar Black(s) Internet Speed 14 Mb/s Other Info 1x Koutech 3Gb/s SATA HDD Hot Swap Rack |

Hi,
I went back and did all of the steps very carefully again.
When I got to step 12, I entered net user "Dad" 123 and hit enter.
I received the message, "The user name could not be found".
Suggestions please?
Thank you.

Hello Bill.
Is "Dad" the default administrator account that was setup when Windows was installed or is it a secondary account created from the default admin account? | My System Specs | | System Manufacturer/Model Number * BFK Customs * OS W 7 64-bit Ultimate CPU Intel Q9550 Yorkfield Motherboard ASUS P5Q Pro Memory 8GB Dominator 8500C5D Graphics Card ATI : XFX 5870 Sound Card Realtek HD Audio 7-1 Monitor(s) Displays 1x 47" LCD HDMI & 3x 26" LCD HDMI Screen Resolution 1920x1080P & 1920x1200 Keyboard Microsoft 500 Mouse Razer Diamondback 3G PSU Corsair 620HX Case Cooler Master RC-690 Cooling Tuniq Tower 120, 2x 140mm and 3x 120mm case fans Hard Drives 1x 80GB Intel X25-M G2 SSD : 1x 500GB & 1x 640GB WD Caviar Black(s) Internet Speed 14 Mb/s Other Info 1x Koutech 3Gb/s SATA HDD Hot Swap Rack |

WINDOWS DISC I NEEDED A START UP DISC, I WAS IN LIVE SUPPORT WITH MICROSOFT, THE TECH TOLD ME TO CALL E-MACHINES AND ASK FOR A INSTALL DISC. E-MACHINES TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS NO SUCH THING AS MY COMPUTER CANM FROM THE FACTORY ALL SET UP. FINALLY GOT MY PC FIXED BUT NO THANKS TO E-MACHINES.
NOW WHAT DISK ARE YOU REFERING TO. AND WHY IS SIMPLY CHANGING/RESETTING A PASSWORD SO COMPLICATED. I CAN CHANGE MY BANKING PASSWORD WITH LESS TROUBLE THAN THIS.
