got a question about quick links hope this is the right section i had a skim through

I prefer to use quick links over desktop icons but ive noticed it freezes for sometimes a minute because i use a large number of icons, is there anyway to get around this handicap or shall i just use less icons or stop using it?
    Hello Anna,

Are any of these shortcuts in Quick Launch located on a hard drive that may have been turned off in Power Options due to inactivity? This would cause a delay as you wait for the HDD spins back up. If so, you can just set this to Never to not have the HDD turn off.

    Hope this helps,

Do you mean links in the "Quick Launch" toolbar or in the "Links" toolbar? "Quick links" do not exist per se.
If the problem comes from apps installed on a second HDD as Shawn mentioned, you may want to reinstall them on the main system HDD so you can keep your second HDD idle most of the time.
Check also if you have dead links, shortcuts you copied to the Quick Launch toolbar to apps you later deleted. I suppose this might also confuse Windows.

there is no way you can fix this problem by doing all the above-mentioned tricks if you are on a windows 7 32-bit OS. Its kinda bud in windows 7 and Server 2008. I have personally tested all the tricks mentioned here and on many other websites, applied the changes, saved the theme, disabled UAC but without any luck. Every restart my cute Quick Launch toolbar disappeared. Then comes the guys who responsible for that "Microsoft Techies" and let me know the reason. Read this

You configure a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 to automatically log on when you start the computer. When you restart the computer, any customizations that you made to the Taskbar are lost and the Taskbar is reset to its default settings.

A supported hotfix is now available from Microsoft. However, it is intended to correct only the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to systems that are experiencing this specific problem. This hotfix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, we recommend that you wait for the next service pack that contains this hotfix.

To download this hotfix go here

Tested works 100 % on windows 7 32-bit OS. Good Luck

What do you see then next to the Windows/Start icon when you right-click "Lock the taskbar" on the Taskbar and unselect the checkmark?

    Hello Gary,

Could you post a screenshot of your unlocked taskbar to see what may be up with it?

    Garry,

I don't see them either. Are you sure that you have the option unchecked to have the taskbar unlocked?

If so, try the other options below as well to see if one of them may unlock it to show the dotted separator lines.
