We have made it possible to boot Mint or other linux from a single VHD file.

Linux Mint 9 VHD available for download - VMLite

a pre-installed Mint 9 VHD file is available, you put it on your NTFS hard drive, configure the boot loader, then you can choose to boot to Mint. The virtual disk is self expanding, only occupies spaces when needed.
