Windows 7: Input Lag

Input Lag

Hello, I searched for this problem, but have yet to find it. I am running VM XP Mode on my Windows 7 RC x64 and am having an issue with input lag. It seems to happen quite often while using my one and only program that works only within XP Mode. It is a sketching software that was designed for use with my appraisal software and I use it daily. I have been trying to ignore this issue for some time, as it is only an annoyance, but enough is enough.

I noticed this right away just runing the VM with provided XP while I was installing software and updates to XP, it would seem to stall out and sit there for upwards of 30 seconds, but then it would blaze ahead to the "current" install % done. Now when I'm doing a sketch, I can draw a line, or maybe even a dozen before it "stalls" and then i have to wait about 30 seconds for it to catch up.

I have the memory set to maximum for the VM, 3,712 MB, while my total system memory is 8GB, my CPU is the Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 overclocked to 3.25GHz from 2.40GHz and I have dual NVIDIA 8800 GT's in SLI mode. I just don't see a hardware issue here.

I dont have any USB ports open to the VM, as i dont need any of them.

If I overlooked some info, please let me know and I'll update this post.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

This problem will not be overcome any time soon. Virtual Machines are primarily utilized and designed for business purposes - rich graphics just are not a high priority for them.

Virtual Machines don't actually take advantage of your hardware video cards, no matter how good they are. Essentially, when you're looking at Virtual XP, or an application running in XP mode, you're looking through a Remote Desktop session, or something very much like it.

You will either have to wait for your software vendor to release a Win 7 compatible version of their application, or you will need to find an alternate solution. For drawing, I'd recommend trying out Photoshop, or its alternative, GIMP.

Thanks for the info, but I think it must have been an issue with the XP VM provided by Windows 7. I got the lag no matter what I was doing within the XP VM. It would come and go. I switched to Vista Business for my VM and have had no "hiccups" yet. Only downside is the lost ability to run my VM applications from within Windows 7 as I could with XP Mode.
