Anti-virus for Virtual Machine...

..having got XP up and running in a Virtual Machine it was bugging me to install Anti-Virus software..

out of interest I contacted a number of the major AV companies asking about licencing for running XP under Windows 7..

Bullguard and Kaspersky said that only one licence was required.

ESET and Panda said two were needed, one for 7 and one for the VM.

AVG said they didn't support Windows 7.

Symantec said it wasn't possible to install IS into a VM (??).

Macafee - well, they didn't seem to understand the question.

Avast appears to be working here.

The free version of Avira works in it, or how about Avast?

the ms technet site recommends running a virus checker on you virtual hard drives, i have used symantec endpoint protection 11.0.4
but it seems to run pretty slow.

as far as licenses go i would expect that you need to have a license for each virtual machine(partition) that you are running. There was a public beta for diskeeper velocity which defrags virtual drives and one of their questions was on charging for drives.
