Installation on Mac Under VirtualBox

Have installed on my Mac (OSX Leopard) under Virtual Box. That part seems to have gone OK.

On initial setup I clicked I was on a home network (which I am, wireless) and from that aspect at least it connected me to the internet. Interesting, it did not ask me for password on wireless router .. ?? because I was connected through there on OSX anyway ? Not clear here.

Where I am at a real loss is:

- I have 3 USB drives connected to the Mac. The little USB Icon in Systray sees the devices, but they are greyed out. It does see other USB devices tho such as my Neat scanner, which it has attached.

- My network attached storage. Not a clue how to see that. Since I can see internet presumably it sees my router, and therefore NAS .. but where ? If I try to map drive I cannot see it there. I type in name that I can access from my XP computer, but says it cannot see it.

- I tried to share a folder. I created a shared folder (i thought) using icon in systray .. but am unable to then map it and actually see it.

Sooooo .. maybe just a simple problem .. i do not know .. but still windows does not seem to be able to make home networking easy !

Your HOST system needs to share the devices you want to see on your Virtual machine.

So

1) enable these devices on your host to be shareable. I'm not too sure of OS-X but as it's a unix deriviative some type of SAMBA shares need to be defined on your host.

2) on your Windows VM allow access -- if you want to share the files on your VM system with the host enable File sharing as per normal windows and allow sharing through your firewall or av software. Whilst testing I would turn all these off BTW. W7 needs also to have NETWORK DISCOVERY turned on.

3) OS-X has pretty easy networking from what I understand so setting up the samba shares should be straight forward.
