Whats the Best way to close a XP Mode App?

I don't have problems with the XP mode console. I always click the ctr-alt-del button and select shut down. Takes about a minute and XP Mode is powered off. I can log off Win 7 normally.

If I start my application (Word Perfect 9) directly. It launches XP mode fine. I type up my letter. Then, I close by clicking File, Exit. XP Mode closes.

But, when I try to shut down Win 7, I get a big box saying it has to hibernate my XP Mode. Takes about 20 seconds.

Is this normal? Is there a way to close the application so that xp mode hibernates when the App closes? It's very annoying getting this "need to hibernate" message when I'm trying to shut down Win 7.

Does XP mode actually close, or is it still running (check Task Manager)? I would suspect that it will still be running, and that you need to explicitly close it. The reason for the message is that Windows doesn't know what you want to do with it and, therefore puts the XP mode into hibernation so that when you relaunch it it resumes from where it left off.

I looked and didn't see any processes or services that looked like virtual or XP Mode. I'm not sure exactly what the process/service name is.

XP Mode starts much faster from hibernation. I've noticed by default the xp mode console shuts down and hibernates.

Really, I prefer running my apps through the console. Once the console is up. I can launch any of my three XP apps fast. Best of all, I can switch back and forth between them quickly.

Launching the app directly from Win 7 (using the menu shortcut) has caused me a lot of problems. As I said in the OP it closes and leaves the virtual process running. Win 7 won't shut down until it hibernates the process.

I even tried completely uninstalling XP Mode and Virtual Mode. I even deleted the \user\Appdata\local\Microsoft\Windows Virtual Machine folder. I wanted the reinstall to be clean and like new. Then, I reinstalled my XP apps. After all that, it still shuts down the same way.

Anyway, I have to get this pc back to my parents. I'm just going to show them the XP Console. It works well. They'd totally freak if Win 7 gave that huge error (about hibernating xp mode) when they tried shutting down.
