Virtual shortcuts - Some not showing in Win 7

    Hi,

I have a reminder program "Reminders 99" which I want to keep using and will not run on Vista nor will it run on Win 7. It will install in the virtual XP so I can access it in the laptop. Reminders99 does not however show up in the Win 7 Start > All Programs > Windows Virtual PC > Virtual XP Windows Applications folder.

Winrar and DriverMax which I installed in the Virtual XP will also install on Win 7 and DO show in the above folder.

Address Database Pro will install on the 32 bit Win 7 but with errors & the same with Vista 32. It will not install at all in Win 7 64 but it DOES install in Virtual XP and it like Winrar and DriverMax and all three appear in the Virtual XP Windows Applications folder.

So, some programs install in Virtual XP but they are only accessible when the virtual XP desktop is active & are only accessed from there. I've tried everything I can think of to get Reminders99 to be accessible from the Win 7 "Virtual XP Windows Applications folder" but it does not get created.

Thus far my searches for a solution have come up nil. Does anyone have a solution for this or suggestions for me to try?

    Thanks,

    Gary

    gary,
you've probably done this, but, have you created a shortcut in the All users folder?

    Hi,

    "Edited"

I did find the folder you mentioned but copying anything from the virtual drive to the logical drive only copies the info as in the virtual drive so the directory path does not link the two.

Ie: in the virtual drive the winrar shortcut shows as this:

    "C:\Program Files\WinRAR\WinRAR.exe"

In the "all users" folder the link to the same file looks like this:

    %SystemRoot%\system32\rundll32.exe %SystemRoot%\system32\VMCPropertyHandler.dll,LaunchVMSal "Virtual Windows XP" "||a1ff403c" "WinRAR"

I assume a1ff403c is a designation for the virtual winrar folder but I have no idea what folder the "reminder 99" is listed as.

I made a shortcut in Virtual XP from the exe in reminders 99 and put it in the winrar directory and tried that but it didn't work.

But running that link did open winrar but showed the contents of the desktop (which does have a reminders shortcut) clicking on that link does work to activate reminders 99.

What I need is a single link rather than many to do the same thing, It's easy enough to open the virtual XP and run it from there but it would be better to have a macro do this when I start Win 7.

    Thanks

    Gary
