Accessing a .PST from .VHD
I have what I believe is a unique situation. But first a few details:
-I use XP mode as my work PC on my personal Windows 7 Pro laptop
-I have a VPN, outlook, etc all on this VM
-Reason for this config is my corporate os is XP SP3, the corporate laptop is not great, and i like the idea of having a seperate instance on my machine for creating a line between work and personal use.
-I recently had an issue with my xpmode VM that rendered my VM to be non-functioning. I was however able to rebuild the VM based upon a copy and continue on with my day to day activities. That said the VM rebuild wasn't perfect and seemed a little flaky.
-More recently, I upgraded the hard-drive on machine to get more capacity (250-500). I cloned the drive using Acronis and was able to get my entire machine cutover to the new drive with the exception of Virtual PC XP Mode which seemed to be missing a file or two and couldn't boot clean (messages around .dlls, etc). It was basically in a boot loop that never entered into the actual PC.
-I took the following actions:
-I uninstalled XP Mode
-I reinstalled XP Mode
-I rebuilt my PC (installed office, vpn, etc)
-I was able to get my exchange content into outlook
-I went back to the old hard-drive and copied the VHD to an external drive
-I swapped back in my current hard-drive and created a drive (G) with my old VHD
-I can now find my old PST, but everytime I try to save it it claims I need an admin account to access it. Of course I am logged in as an Admin but I am guessing it is looking for an admin based upon how Windows Virtual PC creates admin profiles...
-If I try to access the PST on the external drive from my old HDD i hit the same issue.
So ideally, I'd love to be able to access this .VHD as a Windows Virtual Machine, but my key issue is trying to get to the PST to copy it and import it into my PC.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
