    Can Not install KB958559

I had XP mode working in my machine and uninstalled it along with the virtual machine KB958559 a few months ago. I'm trying to install it again and XP mode installed OK but when I try to install KB958559 it gets to 96% then fails and reverts back. Have no idea what is wrong.

    Hi, welcome to the forums:)

    1. Do you get any error message or error code?
    2. Is it a 32 bit or a 64 bit computer?
    3. Are you installing it manually or from Windows Update?

Make sure you have selected the right edition (32 bit or 64 bit) before downloading from the website.

Place the computer in a clean boot mode and install the update manually to check for the issue.

Steps to put the computer in Clean Boot:

    1. Log on to the computer by using an account that has administrator rights.
    2. Click Start, type msconfig.exe in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER to start the System Configuration Utility.
If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type your password, or click Continue.
    3. On the General tab, click Selective Startup, and then click to clear the Load startup items check box. (The Use Original Boot.ini check box is unavailable.)
    4. On the Services tab, click to select the Hide all Microsoft services check box, and then click Disable all.
    5. Click OK, and then click Restart.

I had an image that was 3 weeks old so I imaged back to it and everything installed OK. Some where in that time frame I must of developed a problem that stopped it from installing. Thank you for your response, I'm just glad I was lucky and that fixed the problem.

    Hello,

I have been trying for many, many hours to install Microsoft Virtual PC (update KB958559) and it fails at around 96% each time. Brianzion gave me new hope, by advising to pare Startup programs and services to a minimum. That, unfortunately didn't work.
Some other expert said to bump the MaxNumFilters values in the Registry, from the default of 8, to a higher number. I set it to the max (hex 14), but that didn't change a thing--still failed in the same way. The Windows event log shows this fatal error that always occurs:

Event filter with query "SELECT * FROM __InstanceModificationEvent WITHIN 60 WHERE TargetInstance ISA "Win32_Processor" AND TargetInstance.LoadPercentage > 99" could not be reactivated in namespace "//./root/CIMV2" because of error 0x80041003. Events cannot be delivered through this filter until the problem is corrected.

I'm at a loss as to how to proceed.
