Windows XP Mode refuses to setup

Now I'm not sure what's going wrong at this point. XP Mode installs just fine, so does VirtualPC. I install the update just to be safe, even though my CPU probably doesn't need it. Then I go to XP Mode, to start the setup, everything appears to be fine then at the very end, CAN'T LET YOU DO THAT STARFOX and it fails cryptically :|

Tried in safe mode, tried installing in different order, tried on a different user account, nothing seems to work. Any suggestions?

Did you try a barrel roll? (sorry couldn't resist)

Anyhow, any chance you could provide a picture of the screen?
I'm not 100% sure on exactly when and where this is happening.

Well this is amazing. Out of desperation I moved the Virtual Machine folder back to its default location, and as if by magic XP Mode setup worked perfectly and it started. I have once again been trolled by Microsoft's products

Maguscreed, for future reference, the error was at the end of "Setting up XP Mode", that 5 minute period where it's doing installing and stuff, and would say "Windows XP Mode setup could not be completed. Please try again."

lol well I guess we'll file this under solved then.
Sounds like a basic access issue by the installer though. Moving the folder to default position solved the access problem.

    That's just my theory though.

I guess that you guys need to check your folder permissions for XP Mode, it seems that you don't have full rights in that particular location in where you like to install and fails. I had XP Mode before I reformatted my laptop because of some HDD issues (some faulty connector in it I guess) and I installed it on my data partition instead of the system one, no issues...

Check wherever you have Administrators group or your own user added to the folder you would like to install...

    See ya!!!

Thanks, but I am quite new to Windows7 (about a week) and really need any additional details that you can supply. I really hate being a pest.

Can Anyone give me detailed information on how to activate Virtual XP? All of my numerous attempts have failed. Activation attempts always end with an error saying that the activation cannot be completed.

Hum... looks odd so far... maybe someone can give you details on how to add your own user to the folder that you are using to install XP mode, with images... basically you need to go into folder properties, and in the secirity tab, you need to add your own user with full control, that should solve your issue.

Which is the full path in which you are trying to activate and install XP Mode?

    See ya!!!
