Security software when using Virtual XP.

    Hi,
I have lots of old software and bought Win 7 Ultimate so I could use Virtual XP to run the older stuff.

When I run Virtual XP it advises me I have no internet security! I have one physical computer with an entirely legal set of software. The Virtual XP is included in the Win 7 Ultimate software, yet F Secure say I need another copy of the security software to be protected.

    Can this be correct?

Does the Virtual XP need internet protection, or is it covered by the underlying Win 7 system that is protected?

    What do other users do?

    Thanks

I installed Avast! (Free Edition) into my Virtual XP to provide anti-virus protection for virtual apps.

I also used Microsoft Security Essentials for XP mode in Windows 7. I have a feeling the only reason MSE still supports XP (32 bit only) is so you can use it in XP Mode. Its just an added bonus that it works on regular XP installs too.

Keep in mind that XP mode uses emulated hardware, not the actual physical hardware installed in the PC. With that in mind you may not get the results you're hoping for. You might be better off trying to run your games in compatibility mode on your real hardware.
